- CLASP FOR ALBUMS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 289,133, dated November 27, 1883.
' Application filed March 24, 1883. (No model.)
To ca l whom it out" concern.-
Be it known that I, ALBERT PnLiieER, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful lmprovenientsin Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
In the albnniclasps heretofore in general use the clasp is connected to the mounting edge plate of the cover by a hinge, the parts of which are soldered to the edge plates.
the soldered contact surfaces are very small, the clasps of this construction are not very durable, and require, furthermore, considerable time and labor in properly joining the parts I 5 together.
The objectof this invention is to furnish an albu nrclasp in which the defects mentioned are done away with; and it consists of a clasp in which the casing or bail, or both, are pro- 2o yided with eyes that project through recesses .of the metallic edge plates of the cover, and are engaged by a tired pintle that is soldered to the inner surface of the edge plate, as set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent an end view and a front view of an album-clasp made according to my im- 1 proved construction; and Figs. 3 and 4 are a side view and a front view of an album-clasp with spring-cushioned casing.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
In the drawings, A represents a clasp or bail, and B B the metallic plates or mount- 5 ings, that are applied in the usual manner to the edges of the album-covers. The clasp or bail A is provided with eyes a a, which are inserted into recesses I) b of the edge plate 13, and engaged by a fixed pintle or wire, d, thatis soldered to the inside of the edge plate B, said wire being passed through the eyes a a,
whereby a very strong and durable hingeconnection is formed between the clasp A and edge plate B. \Vhen the edge plate B is fastened to the albunrcover, the pintle is intermediately between the edge plate Bend the edge of the cover, so that it may also be retained thereby without being soldered to the plate B; p
In Figs. 3 and 4: an extensible album-clasp is shown, in which a casing, 0, having fixed hooks e e, forms the clasp or bail. The easing 0 is hinged by sliding and spring-cushioned rods f f, having eyes a a, to the pintle within the edge plate B, before described.
The hooks e 6 look onto a pintle of the edge plate at the opposite side of the cover, which edge plate is recessed for the entering of the hooks in the same manner as the opposite edge plate B of the eyes a a of the rods f f.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. In an album, a hinge device composed of the edge plate B, having recesses bb, and-provided with eyes a a, in combination with a single pintle, d, secured within the edgeplate, substantially as described.
i 2. As an improvement in album-clasps, the extensible spring-cushioned casing C. provided with rods ff, having hooks e at one end and pivot-eyes a a at the other, in combination with the edge platesB B, provided with recesses b b, eyes a a, and pintles dd, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing witnesses. ALBERT PFLT'JGEB.
