Description

CLASPS FOR PANTALOON BOTTOMS.
Patented April 4, 1876,
W gmmmmm 5; gm $3 1tItmHtmw @ifmwmm @figgi N PETERS, FHOTO-UTHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D (L .UNITED STATES PATENT QEFIoF- JAMES H. ANDERSON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
, IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR PANTALOON-BOTT QMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,637, dated April 4, 1876; application filed February 11, 1876.
it appertains to makeand use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to .the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to protect the bottoms of pantaloons from mud, snow,
and rain by turning them up at the back and holding them in that position without turning them up all around; and to this endthe nature of my invention consists in a hinged spring-clampfastened to the bottom of the pantaloons at the back, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing,.Figure l is a section showing the application of my invention. Fig. 2' is a perspective view of the springclamp detached.
A represents a strip or plate of sheet metal of suitable dimensions, formed on each side,
at the lower end, with an inward-projecting ear, a. At the upper end of the plate A, on the inner side, is secured a spring, B, which extends downward between the ears a a, as shown. C is another sheet-metal strip or plate, having its upper end bent to form a flange, b, and on each side, at the angle, is a projecting pin, .10, which is inserted in a hole in the ear to, thus forming the pivots upon which said plate can turn.
At the outer ends of the strips A and O are holes or slots, through which they may be sewed fast to the pantaloons. The clamp is fastened between the canvas and cloth of the pants at the bottom in the back, and cannot be seen when worn.
If pantaloons are turned up all around at the bottom the rain, or snow, or dampness will crease the pants, so that it will be neces sary to have them pressed before the fold can be gotten out again.
By my invention it. is only necessary to turn up in the back, and whc-n so turned up the flange b of the plate 0 will press against the spring B in such a manner that the plate 0 will be held up in position.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A clamp consisting of the plate A, having ears or lugs to a, spring B, and the plate 0, having flange b and pivots was, secured to each other as described, and adapted to be applied to the bottoms of pantaloons, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aifix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
