This invention relates to separable fastener stringers of the type employing a slider movable along stringer' The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which: i I

With bottom stops of the type and kind under consideration, ditficulty has been experienced from the standpoint of maintaining alinement of the end scoops and applying strains to the slider walls by engagement of the walls proper with upwardly and downwardly protruding stop lugs on the bottom stops, the latter having a tendency to spread the slider walls.
Still further, provision of upwardly or upwardly and downwardly projecting stop lugs on the bottom stops creates an undesirable bulk in the overall thicknessof the bottom stop, which is undesirable in many uses of the fastener, particularly on various types and kinds of wearing apparel.
In overcoming these difiiculties and objectionable features, I have provided a bottom stop structure, wherein the overall thickness of the bottom stop is within the limits of the thickness of the scoops of the stringer. Further, the stop lugs are provided on opposed side edges of the bottom stop, so as to abut the flanged sides of the slider, thus dispensing with any stress or strain, tending to spread the slider walls. Still further, the bottom stop includes projecting lugs on upper and lower wall portions thereof to extend toward or engage the end scoop of the shorter stringer; whereas, the end scoop of the longer stringer is disposed in close proximity to or abuts the normal end wall of the bottom stop, thus maintaining the two end scoops in alinement and coupled relationship with each other to insure proper coupling engagement of the stringers in the operation of coupling the stringers. Further, the stop lugs are so positioned on the bottom stop as to permit the endof the slider to extend onto and house part of the wall structure ofthe bottom stop.
In Fig. 1 of the drawing, I have diagrammatically shown, at 10 and 11, the tapes of a pair of stringers hav- Ice ing beaded edges 12 and 13. At 14 I have shown one end scoop of a number of scoops applied to the beaded edge 12 of the tape 10 and at 15 is shown the end scoop of a series of scoops applied to the beaded edge 13 of the tape 11. At 16 and 17, I have shown part of the opposed walls of a slider 18, the walls having flanged sides 19 and 20, respectively, these flanged sides defining the channel or channels of the slider body and, at 21, I have indicated, in part, the forward end of the frog or connecting web of the slider, which joins the walls 16 and 17 at the wide end portion of the slider, as with other devices of this type and kind.
At 22 I have shown one of my improved bottom stops which comprises a die cast box-like body, defined by walls 23 and 24, joined and spaced by a central web 25, the web forming, at each side of the body, longitudinal channels 26 and 27 for receiving the beaded edges 12 and 13 of the tapes 10 and 11, as noted in Fig. 1 of the drawmg.-
The walls 23 and 24 have, atone side thereof, and in alinement with the channel 27, projecting lugs 28 which extend beyond the end surface 29 a suflicient distance to abut the end scoop 15, while also permitting the surface 29 to abut the end scoop '14, in the manner diagrammatically seen in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
In the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the wall 23 only has laterally projecting side lugs 30 which are arranged in the plane of the wall 23, these lugs having right angle front surfaces 31 and rounded rear surfaces 32.
' In moulding the end stops 22, it will be understood that the channels 26 and 2'7 are made sufliciently large to snugly, but freely, receive the beaded edges 12, 13, after which, pressure is applied to the walls 23 and 24 to compress the web 25 and to move these walls toward each other in securely crimping the end s'top upon the beaded edges 12 and 13. This is accomplished with the end stop in abutting engagement with the end scoops 14 and 15, in the manner illustrated in Fig. l of the drawing.
In Fig. 3 of the drawing, I-have shown a slight modification in the structure of the end stop and, for this reason, like prime references will indicate corresponding parts, the end stop being designated by the reference character 22, the walls at 23', 24, the web at 25, the channels at 26', 27', the projecting lugs at 28, the end surfaces at 29' and the laterally projecting lugs at 30'. The lugs 30' are of the' same structure as the lugs 30 and, therefore, will not be further'described.
In the structure shown in Fig. 3, the bottomv wall has similar laterally projecting lugs 33 arranged in alinement with the lugs 30' so as to establish abutting engagement with the flanges 20 of the slider wall 17. v
Considering Fig. l of'the drawing, it will" be apparent that, when the slider 18 is in abutting engagement with the lugs 30, as diagrammatically seen in Fig. 1 of the drawing, the contracted end portion 18 of the slider overlies the walls 23 and 24 of the bottom stop inwardly of the lugs 30. It will, thus, be apparent that, by virtue of this arrangement, the frog 21 does not exert any direct strain upon the end scoops 14 and 15, tending to separate said scoops. In other words, these scoops are maintained in coupled relationship at all times, thus inl thickness of the scoops on the stringers, thus producing 3 a smooth surface on the resulting fastener which will adapt the same for comfortable use upon the various types and kinds of wearing apparel.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters ,Patent is: l. Ina separable fastener comprising a pair of beade stringer tapes having scoops spaced along opposed edges thereof and a flangedslider movably mounted thereon, an improved non-detachable, integrally formed, bottom stop for engaging and checking the movement of said slider, said stop comprising a die cast body having upper and lower ends disposed toward the fastener closing and opening directions, respectively, said body having opposed top and bottom walls disposed on opposite sides of said fastener and joined by a central web, said walls having smooth, flat outer surfaces substantially parallel to the plane of said tapes, a tape bead-receiving channel on each lateral side of the web defined by said web and walls, said web being disposed between opposed tape beads, said walls compressively engaging a tape bead in each said channel; the upper ends of said walls on one lateral side portion of the body engaging the end scoop of only one of said stringers, an extension on the upper end of each said wall on the other lateral side portion of said body, each said extension engaging the end scoop of only the opposed stringer, said engagement of said walls with said opposed end scoops serving to maintain said end scoops in alignment relatively to each other; a laterally extending projection on each lateral edge of each wall disposed intermediate of, and spaced from, the ends of said body, the projections on one wall being transversely aligned with the projections on the opposed wall, each projection having a surface extending normally to said lateral edge of said wall and facing the upper end of said body; said outer surfaces of said walls, and opposed lateral edges of said walls extending between said projections and the upper end of said body, being substantially flush with corresponding surfaces and edges, respectively, of said opposed end scoops; said slider being movable in the fastener opening direction past said end scoops and over said body so as to partially enclose the latter, said surfaces on said projections engaging upper and lower flange ends only on opposed walls of said sliderto check movement of the slider at a point where said opposed end scoops are still coupled together, the engagement of said projections with said flange ends aiding to evenly distribute the strain of impact of the slider against said stop, thereby to avoid any tendency to spread apart the slider walls, said opposed end scoops being always coupled together and being thereby adapted to facilitate coupling of the stringers when the slider is moved in fastener closing direction.
2. In a non-detachable bottom stop for a separable fastener comprising a pair of stringer tapes having scoops thereon and a flanged slider movably mounted on said stringers, said stop being adapted to engage and check the movement of said slider and comprising a body having upper and lower ends disposed toward the fastener closing and opening directions, respectively, said body having opposed top and bottom walls disposed on opposite sides of said fastener and joined by a central web, a tape bead-receiving channel on each lateral side of the web defined by said web and walls, said web being disposable between opposed tape heads, the improvement wherein said web is compressible to move said walls toward each other to retain a tape bead in each said channel, the upper ends of said walls on one lateral side portion of the body extending toward theend scoop of only one of said stringers, a part on the upper end of each said wall on the other lateral side portion of said body extending toward the opposed end scoop of only the opposed stringer, said extension of saidwalls toward said opposed end scoops helping to maintain said end scoops in coupled alignment relatively to each other, a
laterally extending projection on each lateral edge of each wall disposedintermediate of, and entirely spaced from, the ends of said body, said projections, when said slider is moved in fastener opening direction, being adapted to engage upper and lower flange ends only on opposed walls of said slider to check movement thereof at a point where said opposed end scoops are still coupled together, the engagement of said projections with said flange ends aiding to evenly distribute the strain of impact of the slider against said stop, said stop acting to retain said opposed end scoops in coupled relation thereby to facilitate coupling of the stringers when the slider is moved in fastener closing direction.
3. In a non-detachable bottom stop for a separable fastener comprising a pair of stringer tapes having scoops thereon and a flanged slider movably mounted on said stringers, said stop being adapted to engage and check the movement of said slider and comprising a body having upper and lower ends disposed toward the fastener closing and opening directions, respectively, said body having opposed top and bottom walls disposed on opposite sides of said fastener, and joined by a central web, a tape bead-receiving channel on each lateral side of the web defined by said web and walls, said web being disposable between opposed tape beads, the improvement wherein said web is compressible to enable said walls to retain a tape bead in each said channel, the upper ends of said walls on one lateral side portion of the body being in contact with the end scoop of one of said stringers, the other lateral side portion of said body having on the upper end of each said wall an extension in contact with the opposed end scoop of the opposed stringer, said contact engagement of said walls with said opposed end scoops serving to maintain said end scoops in coupled alignment relatively to each other, a pair of laterally extending, transversely aligned projections on opposite lateral edges of at least one wall disposed intermediate of, and spaced from, the ends of said body, said projections, when said slider is moved in fastener opening direction, being adapted to engage only ends of the flanges of said slider to check movement thereof at a point where said opposed end scoops are still coupled together, thereby to avoid any tendency to spread apart the slider walls, said stop acting to retain said opposed end scoops in coupled relation thereby to facilitate coupling of the stringers when the slider is moved in fastener closing direction.
4. In a non-detachable bottom stop for a separable fastener comprising a pair of stringer tapes having scoops thereon and a flanged slider movably mounted on said stringers, said stop being adapted to engage and check the movement of said slider and comprising a body having upper and lower ends disposed toward the fastener closing and opening directions, respectively, said body having opposed top and bottom walls disposed on opposite sides of said fastener and joined by a central web, a tape bead-receiving channel on each lateral side of the web defined by said web and walls, said web being disposable between opposed tape beads, the improvement wherein said web is compressible to enable said walls to retain a tape head in each said channel, said walls having smooth flat outer surfaces, the disposition of said walls relatively to opposed end scoops of said stringers helping to maintain said opposed end scoops in coupled alignment relatively to each other, a pair of laterally extending, transversely aligned projections on opposite lateral edges of at least one wall spaced from the lower end of said body, said slider being movable in the fastener opening direction past said end scoops and over said body so as to partially enclose the latter, said projections being adapted to engage ends only of the flanges of said slider to check movement thereof at a point where said opposed end scoops are still coupled together, the engagement of said projections with said flange ends aiding to distribute the strain of impact of the slider against said stop, thereby to avoid any tendency to spread apart the slider walls, said stop acting to retain said opposed end scoops in coupled relation thereby to facilitate coupling of the stringers when the slider is moved in fastener closing direction.
5. In a non-detachable bottom stop for a separable fastener comprising a pair of stringer tapes having scoops thereon and a flanged slider movably mounted on said stringers, said stop being adapted to engage and check the movement of said slider and comprising a body having upper and lower ends disposed toward the fastener closing and opening directions, respectively, said body having opposed top and bottom walls disposed on opposite sides of said fastener and joined by a central compressible web, a tape bead-receiving channel on each lateral side of the web defined by said web and walls, the improvement wherein the upper ends of said walls on one lateral side portion of the body are disposed in close proximity to the end scoop of one of said stringers, the other lateral side portion of said body having on the upper end of each said wall an extension disposed in close proximity to the opposed end scoop of the opposed stringer, said disposition of said walls relatively to said opposed end scoops serving to maintain said end scoops in alignment relatively to each other, a pair of laterally extending, transversely aligned projections on up posite lateral edges of at least one wall spaced from the lower end of said body, said projections, when said slider is moved in fastener opening direction, being adapted to engage the flange ends only of said slider to check movement thereof at a point where said opposed end scoops are still coupled together, the engagement of said projections with said flange ends aiding to distribute the strain of impact of the slider against said stop, said stop acting to retain said opposed end scoops in coupled relation thereby to facilitate coupling of the stringers when the slider is moved in fastener closing direction.
