mafia I UNITED STATES *PATENT 'OFFICE.
LEVERETT LOOMIS, OF CARROLLTON, ILLINOIS.
7 ERASABLE REGISTER.
"SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 287,837, dated- November 6, 1883,
- Application filed May 25, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEVERETT W. Loo Is, a citizen of the United States, residing at (Jarrollton, Greene county, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Erasable Register, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement in erasable registers, in which I use a plate of transparent glass, portions of theupper surployes or workmen, or other similar purposes,
' and in each instance the drawing is'secured beneath the glass plate preparedas above described.
The'obj ect of my invention or improvement is to enable one to register the sale of seats and private boxes of public audience-rooms, or
mark or register the tally lists or sheets of employes or workmen, or other designs, upon the prepared glass plate corresponding with the cut or drawing or tally-list or other designs made on a sheet of paper and secured beneath the glass by the use'of a lead-pencil or other similar material or substance, so that any entry may be erased or changed by rubbing off the entries or marks of the pencil from the glass. I attain the objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective view, showing the prepared glass, together with its frame, of a public audience-room. Fig. ,2 is a perspective showing the out or drawing of the aisles, seats, private boxes,*&c. of apublic audienceroom with frame. I x 1 Similar letters refer to similar parts th roughout the views.
The letter A in Fig. 1 designates the spaces or portions of the glass plate where its upper surface is removed in manner above stated that is, by grinding, sand-blast process, or by other means.
The letter A in Fig. 2 designates the seats and private boxes of the out or drawing of an audience-room.
The letter B in Fig. 1 designates the spaces or portions of the glass that are not removed or interfered with by grinding or by the sandblast processfor by other means.
55 The letter B in Fig. 2' designates the aisles face of which are removed by grinding or I and spaces between the seats and other vao'ant spaces of the audience-room. Letter O designates the frames of the prepared glass in Fig. 1.
Letter 0, Fig. 2, designates the frame of 6c cut or drawing of the audience-room.
Letter D designates the glass before being prepared as above in Fig. 1. 7 LetterD, Fig. 2, designates the paper upon which the cut or drawing of the audience- 6 5 room is placed. 7 Letter E designates the holes for screws or rivets at the corner of the frames of Fig.1.
Letter E designates the holes for screws or rivets at the corner of the framesof Fig. 2. 7c
I prepare the glass D, Fig. 1, by removing the polished or sleek upper surface of it by grinding or by the sand-blast process, or other means, at such places only as are to be fitted or placed over the (numbered) seats orprivate boxes of the audience-room, as shown in Fig. 2, so that when a seat or private box is sold, or is desired to be reserved, it is marked upon theglass D directly over the drawing of the. seat, pew, or box witha lead pencil or other .8c similar erasable instrumentor material. I I prepare the sheet of paper D, Fig. 2, by having a cut or drawing made of the seats, private boxes, aisles, and other spaces or portions of the audience-room. I
I construct the erasable register for audience rooms by placing the frame 0, Fig. 1, containing the prepared glass D upon the frame O, which contains the drawing or cut of the audience-room D, Fig. 2, so that the parts orportions of the glass designated by A and B coincide with the spaces or portions of D, as are indicated by A and B, and secured in position by means of the screws or rivets passing through the frames at the holes E and E. 95
What I desire to secure by Letters Patent In an erasable register, the combination of the glass plate D, having a design thereon to correspond with a cut or drawing of a design on a sheet of paper, D, the glass plate being placed over the drawing and adapted to be marked upon with a lead-pencil for registering, substantially as described, and for the purpose set forth.
LEVERETT. w. LooMIs.
