Description
l UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EZEKIEL B. FOSTER, OF NORTHERN LIBERTIES, PENNSYLVANIA.
PLATE FOR STENCILING.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 5,511, dated April 18, 1848.
ing Letters, which is described as follows,
reference being had to the annexed diagram.
Figures l, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, show the torni of the stenciling letters, cut or formed on thin sheet brass, copper or other material, free from blanks.
The letters of the alphabet for stencil, printing or painting, which I have improved in addition to those already secured to me by Letters Patent, bearing date on the 13th of May, 1845, are the letters E, M, N, U, Y, &, gures l, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. These letters are cut in plates of thin sheet brass, copper or other material, in the manner and Way stencil letters are noW out. These plates are then placed upon, or against, the piece of canvas, or article to be painted, printed, or
lettered, and a brush dipped in paint or ink, rubbed over the stencil plate in the usual mode which forms the letters.
The character of the letter and style may be varied from that of the gothic, block, octagon and roman, to any other style of letter that may be required, provided no blanks, be introduced like those in the common stencil plates which have to be painted over by a separate process.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, consists in- The stenciling' plates exhibited in the anneXed diagram, by the letters E, M, N, U, Y, &, said letters being` formed free and entire from blanks, and adapted to the use of printing or painting banners, awning capes, transparencies upon canvas, muslin, bunting, &c.
