ASSIGNOR TO JACOB S. COHEN AND FUR CAPE AND WAIST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,959, dated October 16, 1883.
Application [iled August 14,1883. (Nomodcl.\
To r/,ZZ wit/m1, t mat/7 concern: f
Be it known that I, DAVID PRINCE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of N ew York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Fur Cape and Vaist 5 and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the inven tion, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures oi' reference marked thereon, which forni a part of this specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a representation of this invention, and is a perspective view, taken in front. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the back. Fig. 3 is a pattern of one-half of the garment. Fig. 4 is a view of one side of .the design with the seam sewed up.
This invention has relation to a `combined cape and Waist; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims appended.
In .the accompanying drawings, ct designates the back ofthe cape, which may be cut round or pointed. It terminates in a free edge, b, which is designed to extend downward as far as the upper edge, c, of the back portion of thewaist or skirt d. In front the cape portion e and skirt portion f are connectedr by the front waist portions, g. rlhese waist portions g do not extend around the back, their rear edges, '71 being continuous above with the lower edge, b, of the cape, and below with the upper edge, c, of the back skirt, d. The edges h ofthe garment meet in front, and are conned.
nected by suitable loops and buttons or other fastenings from the collar portion m down- 4o ward to the lower edge, u, of the skirt. In this manner the garment is connected from the front portion of the cape to the front portion of the skirt by the waist-fronts only, the back being open, as at e, between the cape and back 45A skirt. In front the garment has the appearance of a close-iitting saoque.
This garment may be manufactured of any other materialwithout using fur, if desired; but it is usually made of fur, and suitably 5o lined, and is intended for ladies wear. The cape portion has two seams, z' t', in each shoulder, and a middle back seam lc. The back skirt has a middle back seam Z and the Waistfronts have dart-seams 0 o. 55
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. The combined fur waist and fur cape, consisting of the cape portion above and the 6o skirt portion below, connected by the waistfronts only, substantially as specified.
2. A combined cape and waist having the shoulder-seams t' t' in each shoulder of the Cape portion, and j the middle back seams 7c `65 therein, the middle back seam Z in, the'skirt portion, and the dart-seams o o in the Waistfronts, the cape and waist portions being disconnected at the back, substantially as specii 7o In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
