SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 286,886,7 dated October 16, 1883. Application med Jun 18,1883. (No model.)
To all whom it man1/concern Be it known that I, HARRY B. WILLIAMS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State and as specied in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a dauber or shoe-blackingdistributing brush embodying my` improvement, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same.

A designates the body of the dauber or brush. It may be made of wood, is of ordinary form, having a rounded portion, a, in
` which the bristles B are inserted, and a long slender portion extending therefronrand forming a handle. l
The bristles B are formed into tufts or bunches and inserted into holes in the body A, in the usual manner. The outer bristles are cut shorter than the inner, so that the brush will be rounded off toward the circumference.
The rounded portion a of the body has a circular portion or hub, a', extending from it. In the exterior of the portion or hub a is a groove or rabbet,
C designates a band which encircles the base portion of the bristles B and the portion a of the body. It is fastened in the groove or rabbet aby` acord or wire, b, passed around it opposite to the groove or rabbet, and secured at the ends, while it tightly embeds the band in the groove or rabbet. rIhe band will preferably be made of india-rubber; but it may be made of other material and have a spring combined with it, so that it will hug the bristles with a spring-pressure. The band may be made partly of non-elastic and partly of elastic material, or it may be made of non-elastic material and have combined with it a metallic fied.
