An apparatus according to the present invention mainly comprises a driven duplicating roller, means on the duplicating roller for holding a master sheet, a pressure roller cooperating with the duplicating roller along aA printing line, movable supporting means supporting the pressure roller for movement between an operative position cooperating with the duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from the duplicating roller, the
rollers being adapted to grip a copy4 sheet at the printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with the master sheet only when the pressure roller is in the operative position, means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when the pressure roller is in the inoperative position, and selectively operable shifting means conan inoperative position spaced from the duplicating l roller.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide stripper means for separating the copy sheet from the master sheet so that the print cannot besniudged. It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a shifting means for automatically shifting a pressure roller into engagement with the master sheet when a desired portion of the master sheet passes the printing line, and to shift the counter pressure roller away from the duplicating roller when an undesired portion of the master sheet passes the printing line, or when printing of the respective copy sheet is to be terminated.
' It is yet an object of the present invention to provide means for shifting the counter pressure roller in such manner that on all copy sheets fed to the printing-line a head portion of the master sheet is printed, while different selected line portions are printed on each copy sheet.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide means for shifting the counter pressure roller to its operative position when a selected line of the master sheet passes the printing line, and to provide automatic means to print in addition to the head portion a diiferent sef lected line during each revolution of the duplicating roller.
It is another object of the present invention to automatically operate moistening means for moistening the copy sheet together with the pressure roller so that portions of the copy sheet which are to be printed are moistened. l
With these objects in view, the present inventionmainly consists in a method of duplicating from at least one master sheet at least two portions spaced from each other a rst distance on to a copy sheet in a position spaced from each other a second smaller distance, cornprising, in combination, the steps of moving the master sheet and the copy sheet in contact-with each other in transporting direction through a duplicating station while the rst portion of the master sheet passes through the duplicating station, separating the copy sheet from the master sheet while the master sheet moves relative to the duplicating station through the first distance, moving the copy sheet and the master sheet at the duplicating station again into contact with each other while the second portion of the master sheet passes through the duplicating nected to the duplicating roller and actuated by rotation thereof, the shifting means engaging the movable supporting means and moving the same and therewith the pressure roller automatically and positively during each revolution of the duplicating roller through a selective cycle of movement between the operative and inoperative positions so as to print selected spaced portions of the master sheet adjacent each other on the copy sheet.
Preferably, stripper means are provided for separating the copy sheets from said duplicating roller and from v the master sheet after the copy sheets have passed through thel printing line.
`Movable moistening means are provided for moistening the copy sheets, and are shifted by the shifting means to an operative position for moistening the copy sheets in the area'which is to be printed.
Preferably, a first cam unit is provided for operating the counter pressure roller for printing a head portion of the master sheet, and such first cam unit also operates the moistening means. A Asecond cam unit is preferably provided for operating the counter pressure roller to print selected line portions of the master sheet. The relative position between the rst cam unit and the second cam unit can be adjusted so that lines can be selected from the master sheet for being printed adjacent the head portion of the master sheet reproduced on the copy sheet.
The second cam unit is preferably automatically shifted after each revolution of the duplicating roller so that on consecutive copy sheets the same head portion, and consecutive line portions, are printed from the master sheet. Such automatic shifting means for the second cam unit can be disconnected so that the desired line is selected by manual operation.
The duplicating method according to the present invention is of particular advantage for work schedules in factories since it permits the printing of the head portion and a line portion referring to a particular operation on a single copy sheet, although only ya single master sheet is used. It is, however, also possible to attach to the duplicating roller a master sheet having the head portion only and another master sheet comprising all line portions from which the respective lines are selected for printing on the copy sheet and for this purpose, two 'clamping means may be provided on the duplicating roller for holding the master sheets.
The novel features which are considered as characteristie for the invention are set forth in particular in the appended claims. The invention itself, however, both as to its construction and its method of operation, together With additional objects and advantages thereof, will be best understood from the following description of specific embodiments when read in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring now to the drawings, Fig. l is a schedule written in mirrorscript on a master sheet. The text comprises-a head portion which is to be printed on all copy sheets, and a number of line portions. A special line may be arranged between the head portion and the line portion, and may be considered part of the head portion. According to the present invention the same head portion together with a single line selected from the line portion is printed on each copy sheet in such manner that the line portion for instance line 5 in Fig. la appears `directly adjacent to the head portion on the copy sheet, although it is spaced from the head portion on the master sheet. In other words, lines intermediate the head portion and the selected line are omitted on the copy sheet.
Figs. 2, 3 and 4 illustrate a cam -arrangement for operating the printing rollers and the moistening means and by which portions of the master sheet of varying width and a varying text portion can be printed adjacent the head portion.
According to the present invention, a cam unit including cams 68-77 are mountedon a cam shaft 79 which is operatively connected to the duplicating roller for ro tation therewith. The cams 68--77 have effective projecting cam track portions of different lengths. The cam unit is movable in axialvdirection sothat only the cam portion which corresponds tothe width of the line which is to be moistened and printed, is effective, and acts on` thecam follower levers 66 and-67. The cam units 68-77 can be turned and adjusted in circumferential direction for determining the moment of engagement between thecamfoliower levers 66 and 67 and the effective camtrack portions whereby printing ofa selected line spaeed'from thehead portion is effected. p Y
Transporting means yare connected to this device for automatically shifting the cam unit 63%77 rearwardly for a distance corresponding to one line during each revolution of the cam shaft. Consequently, printing takes place during the next following revolution from the next following line of the master sheet corresponding to the automatic adjustment ofthe cam unit. The axial shifting of the cam unit is carried out by turning the threaded spindle 6l whereby the threaded nut 62 is moved on guide lrod 62a.
Two cam discs 100 are xedly secured to the cam shaft 79 and serve the purpose of printing and moistening the head portion of the master sheet. Two cam follower levers 10i and 102 cooperate with the cam discs 190. the cam follower lever 161 actuating the moistening means for printing the head'portion, and the cam follower lever WZ actuating the counterpressure roller for printing the head portion.
During each operation the head portion is first printed, After the transport of the copy sheet, which will be de` scribed hereinafter, thel selectedy line of the master'sheet is moist'ened and printed. y
In order to print a line which is spaced lfrom the head portion by other lines, the hollow shaft 85 is turnedk together with the cam unit 684-77 through the gear 76 d in rearward direction to such extent that the lcam follower levers 66 and 67 are not actuated until the master sheet line to be printed is carried by the rotating duplicating roller to the printing line in which it is located opposite the counterpressure roller.
The automatic transport of the cam unit a selected distance in rearward direction is carried out in the following manner:
When the nut 62 is moved by operation of the spindle 61, the stepped member 63 i-s shifted so that the step thereon, corresponding to the distance which the cam unit is to be transported is placedV in a position located opposite an actuating lever 64 and a releasing lever A65.
The cam shaft 79 turns one revolution, and the cam Si) associated with the stepped member 63 actuates the switching lever Si. The switching lever 81 can be arrested in an inoperative position so that the autcu'natic transport is disconnected. When the switching lever 81 engages a recessed portion iu the cam 86, the stepped member 63 is pivoted into a position located opposite the abutment edge 92 of the actuating lever 64 and the abutment edge 94 of the releasing lever 65. The locking pawl 82 which is urged by spring 83 into engagement with the ratchet wheel '54, turns the same together with the hollow shaft 85 and with the cam unit 68-77- A transportingvpawl 88 is mounted turnable about pin 39 and is urged by a spring 87 into engagement with the transporting wheel 86. The actuating lever andthe releasing lever 65 'are urged by springs 90 and 93 against the stop pin 95 of the disc 91 which is rigidly secured to the cam shaft 79. The abutment edge 94 is arranged a slmall distance forwardly of the abutment edge 92. When the stepped member 63 is in operative position for effecting a desired transport, the abutment edge 94 engages the stepped member 63, and the releasing lever 65 is stopped.
The pin 96 of the locking pawl 82 moves onto the cam portion 97 of the releasing lever 65 and is shifted out of engagement with the ratchet Wheel 84. The abutment edge 92 of the actuating lever 64 engages the same step as the releasing lever 65, but a little later than releasing lever 65 whereby the transporting pawl 88 is maintained in its position and stops the transporting wheel 86 to gether with the cam unit 63-77 While the spring 90 is tensioned which corresponds to the start of the'transporting operation. Due to the fact that the hollow shaft 85 is at a standstill and that the cam shaft 79 turns, the spiral spring 98 is tensioned. Since the cam unit 68-7'7 is stopped, the cams are turned rearwardly through a distance corresponding to the width of the lines which was selected by adjusting thestepped member 63. Consequently, the cam follower levers 66 and 67 are actuated at a'later moment during the next'following revolution. The end of the recessed portion of the cam disc 66 effects return of the stepped member 63 through lever Si. whereby the abutment edges 92 and 94 are released which corresponds to the end of the transporting operation. The spring 93 effects forward movement of the releasing lever 65, and the spring moves the actuating lever 64 and the releasing lever 65 into engagement with the stop pin 9S. During this operation, the pin 96 has run off the cam portion 97, and the, locking pawl S2 engages the ratchet wheel 34 and locks the same. During this operation, the hollow shaft 85 and the cam units 68-77 are pressed by the spiral spring 98 against pawl 99. Since pawl 99 rotates with the cam shaft 79, the cam unit 68-77 also rotates. The locking pawl t4?. eects the turning of the follow shaft 85 together with the cam unit 68--77.
The spiral spring 98 has the additional purpose of returning the hollow shaft 8S together with'the cam unit 68-77 step-by-step or continuously to initial position when the locking pawl 99 and the transporting pawl 88 aretdise'ngaged by` suitable manually operated means.
Fig. 4 illustrates the mechanismfor transferring the fassa-11V the link 66b in the direction of the arrow. The pin 66C of the link 6612 moves in an elongated slot `and tensions the spring 66e. Such tensioningovercomes the force exerted by a weaker 'spring 667'- so that the spring 66e moves the pin 66g and the link 66d. The link 66d pivots the moistening lever 66h about the pin 66i, and the moistening means 66k move to an operative position engaging the copy sheet, or the Supporting table, respectively. Due to this arrangement, the engagement of the moistening means 66k is resilient, and the amount of transferred moisture does not vary.
Since the moistening means 66k pivot about the pin 66x', the engagement face of the moistening felt pad moves along a circular arc. The face 661 is so positioned that it extends tangentially with respect to this circular arc. Consequently, the felt pad engages always the same spot even if worn oi after prolonged use.
When the cam unit turns further, the cam follower lever 67 is operated by the same cam track portion and turns about the pin 67a to move the link 67h in the direction of the4 arrow so that the toggle lever means 67e and 67d are straightened. The pressure roller 67e is thereby pivoted about the pin 67g in the direction of the arrowby the link 67f so that the pressure roller 67e is pressed against the duplicating roller 67h. The amount of pressure can be adjusted by turning the eccentric member 67k. Due to the action of the spring 671', the cam follower lever 67 resiliently engages the cam.
Fig. illustrates the control and shifting ofthe pressure roller. The pressure roller 110 is spaced from the duplicating roller 111 in initial position. When the duplicating roller 111 turns about the axis 112 in the direction of the arrow, the lug 113 of the disk 114 engages the roller 115. The lever 116 pivots about the pin 1.17 and moves the link`118 in the direction of the arrow whereby the toggle lever means 119 and 120 are straightened and the counterpressure roller 110 is pressed against the duplicating roller 111. The pin 121 engages during this operation the recess 122 in the locking lever 123. The locking lever 123 maintains the counter-pressure roller 1lb in its position until the. lug 124 of the disk 114 engages the roller 125 whereby locking lever 123 is pivote-d about pin 126 so that the recess 122 releases the pin 121. rl`he spring 127 pulls the link 113 in a direction opposite to the direction of the arrow so that the toggle lever means 119 and 120 return to initial position whereby the counterpressure roller 11d is moved away from the duplicating roller 111. Due to the fact that the lug 124 can be mounted in diderent holeslZ of the disk 114, the width of the printed lines can be determined.
^ Fig. 6 illustrates a stripping mechanism which prevents sliding of the copy sheet on the turning duplicating roller when the co-unterpressure roller is spaced from the duplicating roller. The counterpressure roller is mounted on a lever 198, and a lever 199 is mounted in a slot of lever 199. f The lever 199 carries the stripper bar 200 which extends along the entire duplicating roller. The lever 201 which pivots aboutthe fixed pin 202 is moved by the link-203 when the supporting lever 198 is shifted whereby the stripper bar 200 is placed in the desired position. The resiliently mounted pin 204 presses the copy sheet Zibb under the stripper bar 200 when assuming during the printing operation the position illustrated in dash and dot lines in Fig. 6. Fig. 6 also shows a first master sheet 59, irst clamping means 59a for holding the master sheet 59 on the duplicating roller, a second master sheet 159 for a head portion of the text superimposed on master sheet 159, and held by second clamping means 159e.
A It will be understood that each of the elements described above, or two or more together, may also l'lnd a useful application in other types of rotary duplicators diftering from the types described above.
While the invention has been illustrated and described as embodied in a duplicator for printing spaced portions of a master sheet on a copy sheet adjacent each other, it is not intended to be limited to the details shown, since various modications and structural changes may be made without departing in any way from the spirit of the present invention.
Without further analysis, the foregoing will so fully reveal the gist of the present invention that others can by. applying current knowledge readily adapt it for various applications without omitting features that, from the standpoint of prior art, fairly constitute essential characteristics of the generic or specilic aspects of this invention and, therefore, such adaptations should and are intended to be comprehended within the meaning and l range of equivalence of the following claims.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
l. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination7 a driven rotary duplicating roller; means on said duplicating roller for holding a master sheet having a head portion and a plurality of line portions; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating roller along a printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position cooperating with said duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a copy sheet at said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when Said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; stripper means located in the bight between said rollers for separating copysheets after printing from said duplicating roller and from the master sheet; linking means connecting said stripper means with said movable supporting means for movement with the same;
moistening means for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers; a movable support for said moistening means supporting the same for movement between an operative moistening position and an inoperative position; and selectively operable shifting means connected to said duplicating roller and actuated by rotation thereof, said shifting means including rst means engaging said movable supporting means and second means engaging said movable support and moving the same and therewith saidv pressure roller and said moistening means automatically and positively at least twice during each revolution of said duplicating roller through a selective cycle of movements between said operative and inoperative positions so as to print the head portion and selected spaced line portions of said master sheet adjacent each other on the copy sheet.
2. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination, a driven rotary duplicating roller; means on said duplicating roller for holding a master sheet; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating roller along a printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position cooperating with said duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a copy sheet at said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; moistening means for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers movable to a moistening position engaging a copy and being in said moistening position lspaced a predetermined distance from said printing line;
a movable support for said moistening means; and first and second cam means connected to said duplicating roller for rotation therewith, said first cam means engaging said movable supporting means for moving said assis; 1v
pressure roller during each revolution of'said duplicating roller atleast twice to said operative position and back to said inoperative position for printing a head portion and aselected line portion from said master sheet on the copy sheet, said first cam means having cam portions of equal length to produce equally spaced imprints on the copy sheet, said second cam means engaging said movable support for moving said moistening means at least twice to said moistening position and into engagement with said copy sheet for meiste-ning the same before passing through said printing line, said second cam means being associated with said first cam means for moving said moistening means to said moistening position when said first cam means move said movable supporting means to a position corresponding` to said inoperative position of said pressure roller.
3. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combinationv1 a driven rotary duplicating roller; means on said duplicating roiler for holding a master sheet; a pressure roller cooperating with said dupiicating roller along a printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller 'for movement `between an operative position cooperating with said duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a copy sheet at said printing line and transport same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; moistening means 'for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers; a movable support orsaid moistening means; iirst and second cam means connected 'to said duplicatinf7 roller for rotation therewith, said rst cam means engaging said movable supporting means for moving said pressure roller during each revolution of said duplicating reiter at least twice to said operative position for printing a head portion and a selected line portion from said master sheet on the copy sheet, said second cam means engaging said movable support for moving said rooistening means into engagement with said copy sheet for moistening the saine before passing through said printing line: and means for adjusting the relative position of said rst second cam means.
4. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination, a driven rotary duplicating roller; means on said duplicating roller for holding a master sheet; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating roller along a printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position cooperatingr with said duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a copy sheet at said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining 'the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; moistening for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers movable between an operative and an inoperative position; a movable support for said moistening means; a tirst cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and said movable support 'for moving said pressure roller and said moistening means to operative positions for printini7 a head portion of said master sheet and for moistening the copy sheet; and a second cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same to said operative position for printing a line portion from said master sheet; and means for adjusting the relative position between said iirst cam unit and said second cam unit.

A rotary duplicator as claimed in claim 4 and including locking means for locking said movable supportingrneans in said inoperative position of said pressure roller; and wherein said ijrst-camunit include cam track portions for unlocking said movable supporting means 8 so ias tofpermit movement of said-pressure 'roller toisaid operative position.

erative position; moistening means for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers movable between an operative and an inoperative position; :t movable support for said moistening means; stripper means located in the bight between said rollers for separating copy sheets from said duplicating roller and from the master sheet after printing; a iirst cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and said movable support for moving said pressure roller and said moistening means to operative positions for printing a head portion of said master sheet and for moistening the` copy sheet; a second cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same to said operative position for printing a line portion from said master sheet, said first and second cam unit being turnable relative to each other for selecting different line portionsl fromsaid master sheet; and manually adjustable means for turning said tirst and second cam units relative to each other` for selecting line portions of said master sheet for printing together with the head portion of the master sheet.
9. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination, a driven rotary duplicating roller; means on said duplicating roller for holding a master sheet; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicaitng roller along a printing y line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position cooperating With said duplicating roller and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a copy sheet at said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; moistening means for moistening copy sheets fed to said rollers movable between an operative and van inoperative position; a movable support for said moistening means; stripper means located in the bight between said rollers for separating copy sheets from said duplicating roller and from the master sheet after printing; linking means connecting said stripper means with said movable supporting means for movement with the same; a iirst cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and said movable support for moving said pressure roller and saidV moistening means to operative positions for printing a head portion of said master sheet and for moistening lthe copy sheet; a second cam unit engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same to said operative position for printing a line portion from said master sheet, said first and second cam unit being turnable relative to each other for selecting different line portions from said master sheet; and manually adjustable means for turning said rst and second cam units relative to each other for selecting line portions of said master sheet for printing together With the head portion of the master sheet.
said shaft, each of said cam means including a plurality of cam discs having cam tracks corresponding to portions of said text, each of said cam means being shiftable in axial direction `between a plurality of positions in which a different number of said cam discs cooperate with the associated cam follower roller, at least one of said cam means being turnable on said shaft for adjusting the position of said cam tracks with respect to said cam follower means; and a ratchet device for turning said at least one cam means on said shaft.
ll. An arrangement as set forth in claim l0 and including automatic operating means actuated in response to turning of said printing roller for turning one of said cam means relative to said supporting means after each revolution of said printing roller.

In a rotary printing device comprising, in combina-A tween an operative position engaging said printing roller` and an inoperative position spaced from -said printing roller, said rollers being adapted to grip a supplied copy i sheet along said printing line and to transport the same 10. In a rotary printing device comprising, in combination, a rotary printing roller adapted to support a printing form having a text thereon having lines extending in axial direction of said printing roller, said printing roller being adapted to move the printing formthrough a printing line; a pressure roller cooperating with said printing roller at said printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position engaging said prmtmg rollerplurality of cam follower means connected to said movable supporting means; a shaft connected to said printing roller for rotation therewith; a rotary cam device 1ncluding a plurality of cam means and being mounted on in printing engagement with said printing roller only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; holding means for holding the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position; a plurality of cam follower means connected to said movable supporting means; a shaft connected to said printing roller for rotation therewith; a rotary cam device including a plurality of cam means and being mounted on said shaft, each of said cam means including a plurality of cam discs having cam tracks corresponding to portions of said text, each of said cam means being shiftable in axial direction between a plurality of positions in which a different number of said cam discs cooperate with the associated cam follower roller, at least one of said cam means being turnable on said shaft for adjusting the r position of said cam tracks with respect to said ,cam follower means; a ratchet device for turning said at least one cam means on said shaft; andan automatic operating means actuated by said printing roller for actuating said ratchet device after each revolution of said printing roller.
13. A rotary duplicatorcomprising, in combination, a driven duplicating roller adapted to support at least one master sheet and to move the 'same through a printing line; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating roller at said printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position engaging said duplicating roller along said printing line and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller; supply means for supplying sheets to said rollers so that said rollers grip a supplied copy sheet along said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheet only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; holding means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when 'said pressure roller is in said inoperative position thereof; cam means rotating with said duplicating roller and engaging said holding means for moving the same into a position releasing said copy sheet when said pressure roller is in said operative position; separating guide means located adjacent said duplicating roller in the region olf the printing line and adapted to project between said duplicating roller and a copy sheet maintained stationary by said holding means; and selectively operable shifting means connected to said duplicating roller and actuated by rotation thereof, said shifting means engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same and therewith said pressure roller autoli matically andpositively during each revolution of said duplicating roller through a selected `cycle of movements from said operative position to said inoperative positionv and back to said operative position in such manner that when undesired portions of said mastersheet are moved by said duplicating roller through said printing line, said pressure roller is in'its operative position, and so that when desired portions of said master sheet are moved by said duplicating roller through said printing line, said pressure roller is in its operative position for printing said desired portion of the master sheet on the copy sheet immediately following the last preceding printed desired portion.

A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination, a driven duplicating roller adapted to support at least one mastensheet and to move the same through a printing line; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating copy sheet alongsaid printing-line and transport then same in printing engagement with said master sheet e only when said pressure roller is in Asaid operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheetstationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position thereof; rotary -cam means driven from said `duplicating roller so vas to turnin timed relationship with the mastery sheet, said 'cammeans engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same and therewith said pressure roller automatically and positively during each revolution of f said duplicating roller through a selected cycle of movementsy from said operative position to said inoperative position when undesired portions of said master sheet are moved -by said duplicating roller past said printing line, and again to said operative position for printing desired portions of the master sheet on the copy sheet adjacent to matter previously printed by said master sheet; a moistening device for moistening said copy sheet and being movable between a moistening position and a retracted position; and Operating means including cam means driven from said duplicating roller and connected to said moistening device to move the samey into said saidrollers move said copy sheetffor a predetermined distance each time said one roller is in said operative 12 positonand'lso that the' spacing-of imprints on said copy sheet is equal; and-wherein said moistening device is spaced in said moistening positionA a corresponding predetermineddistancefrom said printingline so. as to be locatedv intermediate'imprints onsaid copy sheet when said one roller is -in said inoperative position.
16. A rotary duplicator comprising, in combination, a driven duplicatingroller; iirst clamping means on said duplicating roller extending parallel tothe axis thereof and adapted to clamp a first master sheet along an edge extending normal to the lines thereon; a second clamping means on said duplicating roller adapted yto clamp a second master sheet superimposed upon a portion of said rst master sheet so that said duplicating roller moves said master sheet through a printing line; a pressure roller cooperating with said duplicating roller at said printing line; movable supporting means supporting said pressure roller for movement between an operative position engaging said duplicating roller along said printing line and an inoperative position spaced from said duplicating roller; supply means for supplying sheets to said rollers s0 that 'said rollersgrip a supplied copy sheet along said printing line and transport the same in printing engagement with said master sheets only when said pressure roller is in said operative position; means for maintaining the copy sheet stationary when said pressure roller is in said inoperative position thereof; and rotary cam means driven from said duplicating roller-so as to turn in timed relationship with the master sheets, said cam'means engaging said movable supporting means and moving the same and therewith said pressure roller automatically and positively duringieach` revolution of said duplicating roller through va selected cycle of movements from said operative position to said inoperative position when undesired portions of said master sheets are moved by said duplicating roller past said printing line, and again to said operative position for printing desired portions of the master sheets on the copy sheet adjacent to matter previously printed by said master sheets. i
