ATTEST: i NVENTORI @wmf f im W NITED' STATES PATENT trice,
MARTIN MEDART, OF BELLEVILLE, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO MARTIN V. MEDART, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
FIXTURE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters atent No. 286,624, dated October 16, 1883.
Application filed July 3l, 1883. (No model.)
fo @ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I. MARTIN MEDART, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Belleville, in the county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do. hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, referer ce being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
"My invention relates more especially to that class of curtain-fixtures in which a single actuating-cord is employed to raise and lower the curtain, such cord being woundaround a pulley on the curtain-roller in a direction opposite to that in which the curtain winds; and
my invention has for its objects to provide a neat, durable, and effective device or locking mechanism to hold such actuating-cord at any desired adjustment, and furnish a ready and rapid means for changing the adjustment of the curtain as required. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in'which-- Figure l is a perspectiveview of a windowcurtain to which my improvement is applied; Fig. 2, a detail section of same, and Fig. 3 a detail perspective view. l
Referring to the drawings, Arepresents the curtain winding upon Va curtain-roller, B, in the usual manner. At one end of this curtainroller is arranged aflanged pulley, C, upon tween which the eccentric or cam d is pivoted, and the engagement of said cam with the 45 rod or bar E locks the sleeve at the desired position. This engagement is made automatic by connecting the cord D with the outer or long end ork arm of the cam d, as shown, while the disengaging motion is accomplished by 5o hand, a turn knob or handle, d', being provided for convenience of operation. A striking advantage of this construction is that the greater the tendency of the curtain to descend the harder will be the grip or lock of the cam 5 5 `upon the bar or rod E. The guide-rod is made adjustable by having its lower end, e, bent at an angle and adapted to enter one of a series of holes, c2, in the window-casing, While the upper end is arranged loose in an eye of the 6o projecting stud or post e', which is also pro,`
rvided with a guide-eye, c3, for the actuatingcordD.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters 6 5 Patent, is-
I., The combination of the curtain-roller B, pulley O, and actuating-oordD with the guiderod E and sleeve D', provided with an eccentric or cam, d, the longer end of which is-con- 7o nected with the actuating cord, as described, and for the purpose set forth. A
2. In a holding-fixture for curtains, the comi bination ofY eccentric or cam d, operating knob or handle d, sleeve D', and guide-rod E, sub- 75 stantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a holding-fixture for curtains, the combination. of the rod E, having its lower end bent at an angle, with the casing provided with a series of holes, c?, and guide-stud e', as SQ and for the purpose set forth.
MARTIN MEDART.
