1 Claim. (Cl. 248-278) This invention relates to mounting means for the wellknown tissue dispensers as used in automobiles. The mounting is improved in flexibility and adaptability to different types of automobile dash constructions, so that it can be installed in more satisfactory manner than heretofore, on dash constructions of various types, with the help of ordinary household tools. As a result the new mounting is fit for use and is actually used in a number of instances where previously no such mounting and consequently no tissue dispenser has been used.

The manner in which this improvement has been achieved will become clear upon a perusal of the description of a preferred embodiment which follows.

Figure 1 is a fragmentary sectional elevation of the dash of an automobile with the new mounting and the dispenser thereon, the view being taken along lines 11 in Figure 2; and

Figure 2 is a section through the parts shown in Figure 1 the section being taken along lines 22.

Disposable tissues are contained in a dispensing carton 11 which in turn is held in a carton-holder 12 of synthetic resinous plastic or the like and provided with a withdrawal opening 13 for the tissues. A swing mounting for horizontal swinging of the carton-holder 12 is provided as shown at 14 and described in greater detail in the copending application Serial No. 311,067 of Edward G. Gantner, now Patent No. 2,738,942. The present invention is an improvement over that described in said earlier application.

An adjustable mounting 15 is provided according to the present invention to insure horizontal swinging of the carton-holder 12 and swing-mounting 14 regardless of the angle a which the dash 16 forms with a horizontal plane. The latter angle difliers to some extent, in automobiles of different make and type, as known to persons skilled in the art. Heretofore this fact was disregarded. However it has been discovered that even minor deviations from a horizontal plane, in the swing and installation of the carton-holder 12, leads to difficulties and objections. For instance, when desirably simple, smooth and easily loaded carton-holders are used a relatively pronounced angle a creates a danger that the carton 11 slips out of the carton-holder when the latter is swung into the inoperative or storage position. Also the provision of a non-horizontal swing may be objected to as being unworkmanlike; and other difficulties have been found. These difficulties are overcome by the new adjustable mounting 15.

For this purpose this mounting comprises two identical L-shaped clip portions 17. Each clip member 17 is Patented Dec. 9, 1958 pivoted on a vertical ear 18 of a generally horizontal metal strap 19 by a pivot pin 20. Conventional bolts 21 secure the clips 17 to the underside of the dash 16. In this manner two pairs of clip and

17, 18 are formed. One member of each pair, as shown the car 18, has an arcuate slot 22 formed therein and centered about the pivot 20. A bolt 23 extends through each slot 22 and through the other member of the corresponding pair and is tightened to combine the two members of the pair into a rigid structure; the exact location of the bolt 23 in the slot 22 being selected to suit the angularity a.

By means of this simple expedient the carton 12 and swing-mounting 14, known from said earlier application, can be held in accurately horizontal planes regardless of the inclination a and yet the installation at 21 can be performed without any tools other than an ordinary drill.

The swing-mounting 14 is shown as comprising a vertical pivot pin 24 having a head 25 above the strap 19 and a body extending through guides at 26 in the corner bracket 27 for the carton-holder 12. A compression coil spring 28 surrounds the pin 24 and bears downwards against a snap ring 29 on said pin and upwards against the inner and lower side of the corner bracket 27, thereby holding the pin 24 down and the bracket 27 up against the strap 19. A key 30 illustrated by a struck-out portion of the strap is provided in register with suitable holes 31 in the corner bracket 27 to provide fixed snap-in positions for the carton-holder 12; preferably an inoperative or storage position wherein the carton-holder extends parallel to and is stored away below the dash 16 and an operative or dispensing position wherein the carton-holder is swung out from under the dash into a direction at right angles thereto. A slot 32 may be provided between the holes 31 in the corner bracket 27. The carton-holder 12 is fastened to the corner bracket 27 by conventional rivets 33 desirably having fiat countersunk inner heads to avoid any interference with the insertion and removal of the dispensing carton 11 in the carton-holder 12. In spite of the smooth sliding of the carton in the carton-holder so provided the strictly horizontal mounting available by the present improvement avoids any danger of losing the carton 11 when swinging and snapping the carton-holder 12 into the storage position.

What is claimed is:

A mounting device for safely but swingably and removably holding a dispensing carton for disposable tissues under automobile dashes comprising a pair of laterally spaced L-shaped clip members each having a first leg and a second leg, the first leg of each member being adapted to be secured to the underside of the dash, a horizontal metal strap formed at each end with a pair of vertical ears extending in a common direction and embracing the second legs of said clip members, means pivotally connecting said ears one to each of said second legs to allow angular adjustment of the strap relative to the clip members in a vertical plane, each ear having an arcuate slot therein concentric with the pivot means, means carried by each second leg one engageable in each slot to limit such angular adjustment and to secure the strap adjusted, a bracket for a cartonholder, and a pin carried by and projecting from the strap in a direction opposed to the ears interconnecting the bracket with the horizontal strap so that the bracket can swing in a horizontal plane.
