UNITED stares LAWRENCE s. McOOMlB, or HUNTINGTON, INDIANA.
DISPLAY RACK;
Application filed September 14,1925. Serial No. 56,286.
My invention relates to improvements .in display racks and more particularly to a novel form of supporting bracket which permits of angular adjustment of the merchandise supporting bars. The primary object is to provide a supporting bracket of extremely simple construction and one wh ch will permit adjustment of the supporting bars to practically any preferred angle and allow ready separation of the parts when desired.
lVith the foregoing in view, the invention resides in the novel subject matter hereinafter described and claimed, the description being supplemented by the accompanying drawing. 7
Figure 1 is a fragmentary detail perspective view showing the mounting at one end of the supporting bars;
Figure 3 is a transverse section looking toward one of the supporting standards Figure 4 1s a detall elevatlon lookmg toward one of the standards, the supporting bar being removed from the bracket;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4; and
Figure 6 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 6-6 of Fig. 4:.
It is understood that these merchandise supporting bars have their opposite ends mounted in identically formed brackets so for the purpose of this application I have illustrated but one of the end brackets. Broadly stated, this invention consists of a main base plate attachable to a vertical end standard and having a channel-like head member pivoted thereto for angnlarly mounting one end of the merchandise supporting bar, this supporting bar being readily removable from the pivoted head member.
The main or base plate 1 is preferably formed from a sheet of metal andv is set into a recess formed in the inner face of an endsupporting standard S, said plate being secured in position by means of screws or the like fasteners 2. While this plate may be of any preferred configuration, I have shown it as being substantially semi-circular and provided with a bolt opening 3 near its front edge. A locking device is carried by this main or base plate 1 and consists of an outstanding threaded stud 4 arranged near the curved portion of the plate and adapted to threadedly engage the wing-nut or the like element 5. The manner in which this locking device functions will be hereinafter described. 1 i
The head member which engages one end of the merchandise supporting bar B comprises ametal channel-like device 6, one end 7 of which is closed while the other end is open to permit of ready removal therethrough of the merchandise supporting bar B when desired. The longitudinal side walls 8 converge outwardly so as to form a dovetail connection with the supporting bar B so that the supporting bar may serve as a brace or tie-rod between the end standards. It is obvious that through the above structure, this bar may be readily removed from the brackets or head members 6. This head member 6 is provided near one end in its bottom wall 9 with an opening alinable with the aforementioned opening 3 in the main or base plate 1 and is pivotally connected to this base plate-by means of a pivot pin, rivet or the like 10. Between the base plate 1 and the head member 6 is a plate 11 which extends the full length of and may be welded to the head member. and at its outer end, that is the end opposite the pivot point of the head membeigis curved laterally to substantially the same degree as the curved portion of the base plate 1. This laterally curved portion or arm 12 is provided with an arcuate slot 13 which is concentric with respect to the pivot pin or bolt 10 and slidably receives the aforementioned threaded stud 4. This particular locking device permits of ready adjustment of the head member to any desired angle and positive looking at any adjusted point.
Excellentresults have been obtained from the details disclosed and they are therefore preferably followed. but within the scope of the invention as claimed, other structures may well be used to advantage.
I claim:
1. A display rack comprising a standard, a base plate fixed to the standard, an elongated channel-like head member, a pivot pin connecting one end of the head member to the plate, a lateral curved slotted arm at the other end of the head member. a sup porting bar having one end seated in the channel-like head member. and a locking device carried by the base plate and adapted to co-act with the slotted arm to lock the bar and head member at different angles.
2. A display rack comprising astandard, a base plate iixed to the standard, an elon.- gated channel-like head member having one end closed and its other end open, pivotal connection between said closed end of the head member and the base plate, said head member being substantially dovetail shape in cross section and adapted for connectionwith a supporting bar, a lateral curved slotted arm at the open end of the head member, and a Wing nut and bolt carried by the base plate and engageable with the slotted arm to lock the head member at difierent' angles.
3. A display rack comprisinga standard,
gatedchannel-like head member having one end closed and its other. end open, said head member being substantially dovetail shape in cross section, a plate secured to the base of the head member, a lateral curved slotted armvat the open end of the head member and integrally formed with said plate, a Wing nut and bolt carried. by the standard and engageable in the slotted arm to look the head member. at different angles, said: headv memher being pivoted atv its closed: end to the standard and adapted for connection with a supporting bar.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto afiixed my signature.
