Description

Nov. 25, 1958 H. D. KOENlG COMB CLEANING DEVICE Filed 001'.. 27. 1955 INV ENTOR.
United States Patent O COMB CLEANING DEVICE Harry D. Koenig, New York, N. Y., assignor to Braun, Wettberg & Co., Beerfelden (Odenwald), West Germany, a firm Application October 27, 1955, Serial No. 543,136
1 Claim. (Cl. 15-39) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in comb cleaning devices.
More particularly, the present invention proposes the construction of an improved comb cleaner which can easily and conveniently be carried in pocket or purse and which will quickly and eiectively clean a pocket comb merely by passing the comb through the cleaner.
As a further object, the present invention proposes forming the comb cleaner with a casing having no dimension greater than the length of a pocket comb and small enough to hold easily inone hand with brushes rotatably, slidably and removably mounted in the casing.
Another object of the invention proposes constructing the casing with two complementary members frictionally and removably to t together to hold any dirt or hair cleaned from a comb until it can be conveniently disposed of and to permit the brushes to be cleaned at intervals or when desired.
Still another object of the invention proposes forming the casing with end walls and with bearing members rotatably and removably to hold a pair of meshing spiral brushes in the casing adjacent opposed aligned comb slot openings in the casing.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a comb cleaner constructed in accordance with the present invention, a comb being indicated in dot-dash.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the structure shown in Fig. 1 with the casing halves opened and separated.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the casing members shown in Fig. 2.
The comb cleaner, in accordance with the invention illustrated in Figs. l to 3, inclusive, has a casing 15 which may be made of plastic, metal, wood or similar material.
Casing 15 has two complementary halves or members 65 and 17 with end walls or portions 66 and 67 and 21 and 22, respectively. Casing member 17 also has side Walls 23 and 24 and a front face or side 25. Casing 2,861,286 Patented Nov. 25, 1958 member has side walls 26 and 27 and a rear face or side 28. Aligned opposed comb slot openings 29 and 30 are provided in the front face or side 25 and in the rear face or side 28, the major axes of the slot openings extending lengthwise of the casing members toward the end walls. A
Comb slot openings 29 and 30 are arranged for a comb 31 to pass through at and endwise in one opening and out the other.
Casing member 65 has U-shaped shaft bearing members 68 spaced along the end walls 66 and 67 to rotatably and removably support a pair of brush shafts 37 and 38 having spiral brushes 39 and 40. The brush shafts are disposed in the brush shaft bearing members so as to put the brushes 39 and 40 in meshing engagement between the comb slot openings 29 and 30 of the casing. A pair of inverted U-shaped clamps 68 frictionally and removably lit over the bearing members 68 to hold the shafts in position. A ange edge portion 69 encircles the casing member 65.
The casing 15 is substantially smaller than the length of comb 31 for convenient carrying in pocket or purse as well as for structural and functional purposes.
Casing member 17 has opposed flanged edge portions 41 and casing member 65 has coacting grooved portions 42 frictionally and removably to hold the casing members together.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modiiications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent ing having opposed sides with opposed aligned comb slot openings for a comb to pass through atwise and endwise in one opening and out the other, a pair of spiral brushes with central axial shafts rotatably and removably mounted in the casing adjacent the comb slot openings for a comb inserted through the comb slot openings to pass between and rotate same, said casing having U-shaped bearing members against the ends thereof, said brush shafts being rotatably and removably mounted in said bearing members, and hold down inverted U-shaped clamps frictionally and removably fitted over the lbearing members to removably and rotatably hold the brush shafts in said bearing members.
