Application April 4, 1951, Serial No. 650,626 7 v1 Claim. c1. 155-4) My invention relates to improvements in leg andfootrest devices for use in ankle wrapping or taping operations especially, although as will presently appear, itis useful in wrapping other parts ofa leg also.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a rest for supporting the lowerjleg of a person at the calf and the foot at the heelwith the foot held by a thrust relative to the thrust plate to vary the degree of flexing of the foot as may be required.
Still another object is to provide a leg rest for the calf of the leg and a rest for the heel of the foot relatively adjustable vertically to support the lower legs substantially horizontally at the height of a chair or bench so that a person seated on a chair or bench may comfortably rest the lower leg on the leg and foot rest.
Yet another object is to provide a rest as in the foregoing which is adapted to seat an operator in a position for conveniently wrapping, or taping and for holding the rest device down against skidding or being otherwise displaced from proper position while the wrapping operation is being performed.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure l is a view in side elevation of my improved leg and footrest device in the preferred embodiment thereof;

Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in vertical section taken on the line 33 of Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a view in vertical section taken on the line 4--4 of Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a view in vertical section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1, and
Figure 6 is a fragmentary perspective view of the footrest and the mounting means therefor.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, the device of my invention comprises a skeleton frame 1, of steel tubing, including a horizontal bottom portion 3 with an upstanding and rearwardly curved front end portion 5, an upwardly and forwardly curved rear end portion 7, a footrest supporting post 9 rising from the bottom portion 3 between said end portions 3, 5, a thrust plate supporting post 11 inclining upwardly and forwardly from the bottom portion 3 rearwardly of the post 9 and which curves forwardly above the rear end portion 5 and over the post 9 and has the rear end portion 7 terminally 2,860,688 Patented Nov. 18, 19 58 connected thereto, and a diagonal front brace 15 extending between the post 11 and the bottom portion 3.
A pair of front and rear transverse tubular stabilizing,
members 17, 19 with downturned floor engaging ends 21 underlie the front and rear end portions 5, 7 and support the frame 1, in upright position. i j t t The frame 1 further includes a flat horizontal socket 23 on the upper end of the front end portion5, a tubular upstanding socket 25 on the upper end ofthe post 9, and a right angled forwardly and upwardly projecting support 27 on an intermediate part ofthe brace 15 all for a purpose presently seen. p
The described frame 1 and the stabilizing members 17, 19 are preferably a one-piece or an allwelded together structure. a i j The leg rest 29 is vertically adjustably mounted on the upper end of the front end portion 5 of the frame 1 in elevated position and comprises a rectangular concave plate 31 adapted to extend transversely of tthe frame 1 and which is provided with a central depending, vertical shank33 rising above and threaded throughthe socket 23', whereby the leg rest 29 is mounted for screw threaded adjustment vertically by rotation thereof.
A footrest 33 is provided comprising a concave heel rest and supporting plate 35 adapted to extend transversely of the frame 1 and which is provided with a centrally depending shank 37 threaded into and rising from the socket 25 and whereby the footrest 33 is mounted in elevated position from vertical adjustment by rotation of the same. The heel rest plate 35 is formed with a longitudinal upstanding heel thrust flange 39 thereon offset to one side of the axis of rotary adjustment of the footrest 33 so that said flange may be positioned forwardly or rearwardly of said axis by a half rotation of the heel rest plate 35 all for a purpose presently seen.
A transverse flat foot thrust plate 41 for the ball of a foot is suitably fixed on the upper end of the post 11 above the footrest 33 and in a position forwardly of the axis of rotation of the footrest 33.
A triangular sheet metal seat 43 with depending reinforcing flanges 45 is welded, as at 47, on the rear end portion 7 of the frame 1, behind the post 11, and on which an operator may sit astride the same in the rear of the thrust plate 41 and footrest 33 with the feet on the floor to stabilize the frame 1 and be in a convenient position for wrapping or taping with tape taken from a roll 49 on the support 27.
Referring now to the operation and use of the device, the foreleg of a person desiring wrapping of an ankle is positioned with the calf of the leg in the leg rest plate 31 and the heel of the foot in the heel rest plate 35 and the heel of the foot thrust against the heel thrust flange 39 while the ball of the foot is thrust against the foot thrust plate 41, all as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1. With the heel rest plate 35 rotated to position the heel thrust flange 39 forwardly of the axis of rotation of the footrest 33, and the foot and leg rests 33, 29 adjusted to position the same in horizontal alignment at a chair or bench seat level, the heel thrust flange 39 and the foot thrust plate 41 will lie in a vertical plane at an angle of approximately 5 degrees to the horizontal so that the foot will be flexed rearwardly 5 degrees preparatory to wrapping the ankle. If the heel rest plate 35 is rotated degrees to position the heel thrust flange 39 rearwardly of the axis of rotation of the footrest 33, as shown in Figure l, the heel thrust flange 39 and the foot thrust plate 41 will lie in a vertical plane at an angle of 10 degrees to the horizontal so that the foot wi1lbe' flexed rearwardly in corresponding degree preparatory to wrapping the ankle. By adjusting the footrest 33 and the leg levels, the angle of flexing of the foot maybe increased as will be clear.

A device forsup porting a lower leg of a personfor wrapping of the ankle comprising a frame having upstanding front and rear ends, a legrest for the calf of the leg mounted in elevated position on said front end for supporting the leg by the'calf in horizontal position, a vertical post on said frame rearwardly of said leg rest, a footrest comprising a horizontal heel supporting plate mounted on said post in elevated position and in sub,- stantially'horiz ontal alignment with said leg rest, a foot thrust member for engagement with the ball of the foot, means mounting said foot thrust member on said frame above said heel supporting plate and offset from ,said heel supporting; plate toward said leg rest whereby the foot of the leg with the heel supported on said heel supporting plate and the ball of the foot engaged against the foot thrust plate will be flexed rearwardly of the leg at an angle thereto preparatory to wrapping of the ankle, said heel supporting plate having a heel thrust flange rising therefrom for engagement by a heel supported on the heel supporting plate to establish the angle of flexing of the foot, and meansrotatably mounting said heel supporting plate-onsaid post with said flange offset from the axis of rotation of the heel supporting plate for rotary adjustment horizontally to rotatably vary the position of said heel thrust flange relative to the axis of rotation of said heel supporting plate and to the foot thrust member for varying {the angle of flexing of the foot.
