Description

UNITED STATES VPATENT OFFICE.
HENRY BRANDT, OF COLUMBIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BENDING TEETH FOR HORSE-RAKES.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,555, dated June 5, 1860.
To all 'whom it 'may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY BRANDT, of the borough of Columbia, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Machine for Bend ing the Teeth Used in Horse-Rakes, either of Steel or Iron; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specication, in which- Figure l, shows the bender A, with its raised edge or fia-nge B, and attached guides E, D, braces C, e, e and ulcrum Steeple F. The curved lever with its handle K, groove L on the lange H, with its eye N (detached).
Fig. 2, shows the curved lever K, L, M in place, with a straight wire fw, or piece of rolled iron or steel inserted by its one end into the hole in the upright end piece G. The other end of said rod or wire fw, comes in contact with end of the groove L, on the lever, resting on the base A of the bender against the iange B, of the same.
The operation is as simple as its construction, by taking hold of the lever handle K,
afiixed on its pivot F, the wire is speedily bent with ease and uniformity to any shape or curve desired, by making the corresponding curves of the bender and lever of said curve. This machine may be cast of iron or made of wood and lined with sheet-iron, and used upon a bench, trestles or otherwise.
The numero-us horse-rakes manufactured require a machine of this kind, whereby much valuable time is saved, and a uniform curve secured.
I am aware that various methods are used to effect the same end, but I am not aware that any machine, substantially like this, has been employed for the purpose.
Vhat I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The bender A with its {iange B, raised end G guides E, D, pivot F, and braces C, e, e, in combination with the flanged and grooved curved lever K, L, M, N, made substantially as herein set forth for the purpose specified.
HENRY BRANDT. Witnesses:
