PATENT -WILLIAM M. MIXER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
OIL-SAVING CONTRIVANCE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,752, dated September 11, 1883.
Application filed March 27, 1883. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern: Be it known that I, WILLIAM M. MIXER, of
the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Oil- Saving Oontrivances, of which the following is a full, true, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
My invention is designed to save oil which might otherwise go to waste, and also to prevent the injurious results which might ensue from the scattering "of the oil.
My invention will be readily understood from the accompanying drawing, of which the right-hand half is in section and the left-hand half in perspective and partly in section.
A represents a piston-rod, the actuatingpiston being in this drawing supposed to be above it. To the piston-rod is connected the cross-head B, which rises and falls on the side frames or ways, 0 G. Surrounding the lower end of the piston-rod A is the channel D. To this channel is connected the tube E, which rises and falls in the tube F. The tube F delivers into a receiver, G, which should be located below the ring D at the lowest point of its traverse. in the tube F for a greater distance than the traverse or stroke of the cross-head B. By this arrangement the oil flows down the pis ton-rod A and escapes into the gutter or channel D, and thence flows through the pipe E into the receiver G.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a rising and falling piston, of a receiving gutter or channel surrounding its lower end and connected with a pipe, which pipe rises and falls within or properly connects with an external pipe or receiver, and an oil-receiver connected with said pipe or receiver.
WILLIAM M. MIXER.
