F7151 W f T R-f I I UNITE STATES PATENT OFFICE;
.foHN MOORE, or SYRACUSE, NEW YORK.
MOLDING FORPI'CTURE-FRAMES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 284,316, dated September 4, 1883.'
i Application filed June 2,1883. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN MOORE, of Syra cuse, in the county of Onondaga and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Moldings, PjCtUI'QrFI'QrIHiS, &c., of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description. I
This invention consists, essentially, of a picture or mirror frame composed of concreture, and formed with a recess around the outer edge of the rabbet of the central opening of the frame, and a wooden frame cemented in said recess to form one of the shoulders of the rabbet and to receive the fastenings for the picture' or mirror, all as hereinafter more fully explained, and set forth in the claim.
The invention is fully illustrated in the annexed drawings, wherein Figure I is a vertical transverse section of a mold in which a pictureframe can be formed in accordance with my invention; and Fig. II
is a rear view of Q a picture-frame embodying my invention. r
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents a frame, eitherfor a'picture, mirror, or analogous purpose. Said frame I form chiefly, or nearly wholly, of a substance known in the art'under the term cartonpier, or of other suitable concreture or-solidifying substance, which while in aplastic state I cast or introduce into a mold, B, usually composed of gelatine, and of the same dimensions and form as that of the frame A to be constructed.
Orepresents a supplemental frame, composed of cleats orbars of wood or other stiff material. This frame is of the requisite a1 mensions to have its inner edge correspond to the outer shoulder of the usual'rabbet, T, which is extended around the central opening of the frame for the reception of the picture or mirror. central body of the gelatine mold before introducing the concreture, thereby forming in Said frame I slip over the edge of thethe back of the frame A a recess extending around the aforesaid rabbet, and insaid 1ecess the supplemental frame 0 becomes firmly cemented. The wooden frame 0, secured to the main frameA, as aforesaid, forms, with its inner edge, the outer shoulder of the rabbet in which the picture or mirror is set, and thus furnishes a suitable wall into which to drive the pins usually employed for fastening the picture and glass in the frame.
Having described my invention ,whatI claim asnew, and desire to secure by Letters Patent isformed with a'recess around the outer edge of the rabbet r, and the wooden frame C, cemented in said recess and forming the outer shoulder-of the rabbet, substantially in the manner 'and for the purpose specified and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name and affixed my seal, in the presence I of two attesting Witnesses, at Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of NewYork this 29th day of May, 1883.
. JOHNMOORE. [is Witnesses:
