3 Claims. (Cl. 206--47) This invention relates to a combined record and candy package.
An object of this invention is to provide a phonograph record package embodying a pair of disc records of the unbreakable type which form two walls of a package or receptacle, with a split circular outer wall holding the records apart so as to form a chamber or space between the records which may be lled with candy. The records are of the transparent unbreakable type so that the contents of the package may be viewed from the exterior.
Another object of this invention is to provide a record package of this kind wherein the rim or circular wall has a removable plug therein held in place vby pressure adhesive tape. Removal of the tape will effect removal of the plug so that the candy may be removed without complete removal of the rim.
A further object of this invention is to provide a record package having a split circular rim with an improved means for locking the split ends together.
In a modified form of this invention the candy is formed yas a hard disc of the same diameter as the records and an edible adhesive, such as a syrup, is applied to the opposite faces of the candy and the records pressedagainst the adhesive. An outer split circular rim encompasses the outer margins of the records and candy, and a pressure adhesive tape is then applied to the rim and overlaps the outer sides of the records, so that a relatively solid package is formed. l
In another modiication of this invention the package is formed as a square box having circular openings or windows in the cover and bottom wall with a transparent sheet over the openings. A circular divider is disposed in the box and engages between a pair of transparent records so that a space will be formed to receive loose candy or a candy disc.
With the above and other objects in view, my invention consists in the arrangement, combination and details of construction disclosed in the drawings and specification, and then more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, and first to Figures l to 5k inclusive, the numeral 20 designates generally a record package constructed according to an embodiment of this invention. The package 20 is formed of a pair of discshaped phonograph records 21 and 22 which are preferably of the unbreakable and relatively transparent type.
The records 21 and 22 form the opposite walls of the package 20, and the records are held in spaced apart relation at their central portions by means of a disc-shaped spacer'23 which has a diameter larger than the spindle openings in the records 21 and 22 but smaller than the outside diameter ofthe records. The records 21 and 22 are removably secured to the spacer 23 by means of reversed pressure adhesive tapes 24. l
The outer margins of the records 21 and 22 are removably mounted in a split circular rim '25 which is of the relatively flexible type, and is capable of'being extruded from a die. The rim 25 is formed with a pair of grooves 26 and 27 Within which the records 21 and 22 respectively are seated. v
The rim 25 with the spacer 23 forms an annual cham.- ber or space 28 between the records, and within which space or chamber loose pieces of candy 29 are adapted-to be retained. It will be noted in Fig. 2, that in 4addition to holding the records in spaced apart relation at their central portions the spacer 23 forms a barrier or inner wall of the chamber which seals it preventing small pieces or fragments of the candy from passing through the spindle openings in the records 21 and 22. The ends of the rim 25 are detachably locked together by means of a pair of wedge-shaped locking members 30 which project from o-ne end of the rim 25, as shown in Figure 3st and the other end of the rim 2S is formed with a pair of dove-tailed keeper openings 31 withinwhich the locking wedges 30 are adapted to engage.
When the ends of the rim 25 are locked together the ends are held against outward springing by means of a` short piece of pressure adhesive tape.
The rim 25 is formed with a tapered discharge opening 33 within which a tapered The plug 34 is held in the opening 33 by means of a pressure adhesive tape 35 which will adhere to the rim 25 and the plug 34. Removal of the tape 35fwill effect removal of the plug 34 so that the candy 29 may be removed from Esetween the records 21 and 22 without removing the rim Referring now to Figure 6, there is disclosed a modified plug 34 removably engages.
form of this invention wherein the rim 36 is formed of a relatively wide strip having a plurality of grooves 37 therein, within which records 38 are adapted to be seated. The space between each pair of records is adapted to be filled with candy, and a removable plug 39 is disposed in an opening 40 formed in the rim 36 communicating with each space 41.
Each plug 39 is removably held by means of a pressure adhesive tape 42 so that selected ones of the plugs V39 may be removed for discharging the candy through the opening 40.
Referring now to Figure 7, there is disclosed a modified form of'this invention wherein a split circular rim 43 is formed with a pair of grooves 44 and 45 within which a pair of records 46 and 47 are removably .'eng'ageable. The rim 43 is formed of plastic material which is'relatively rigid, and the rim 43 is formed with a cut-out 48 at a point diametrically 'opposite the split 49 so that the two halves of the rim 43 extending from the cut-out 49 may be bent outwardly for permitting removal of the records 46 and 47. I
The ends of the rim 43 are locked together by means of a partly circular locking member 50 extending from one end of the split rim 43 and engaging in a partly circular keeper 51 formed in the other end of the rim 43. The locked ends of the rim 43 are secured together by means of a pressure adhesive tape 52.
Referring nonI to Figures 8 and 9, there is disclosed another form of locking means for a rigid rim indicated at 53. The rim 53 has a substantially V-shaped locking member 54 carried by a relatively thin tongue 55, and the locking member 54 engages in a V-shaped keeper 56.
The locking member 54 is disposed on vthe inside of the rim 53, and the locking member 54 may be released by extending a thin blade through a slot 57 which cornmunicates with the keeper 56.
Referring now to Figures 12, 13 and 14, there is disclosed another form of the invention embodying a relatively rigid rim 58 of the split type, and the rim 58, which is relatively thin, has a plurality of circumferential spaced apart inwardly projecting outer lugs 59 formed integral therewith, and a plurality of inwardly projecting inner lugs 60. The inner lugs 60 are staggered with respect to the outer lugs 59 so that the rim 58 may be formed in a die.
In other respects, the structure shown in Figures l2, 13 and 14 embodies the locking means and records as embodied in Figures 7, 9 and 10.
Referring now to Figures 15 and 16 there is disclosed another modification of this invention. A disc-shaped article of candy 61 which is relatively hard is disposed between a pair of disc-shaped records 62 and 63. The records 62and 63 are removably secured to the opposite faces of the candy 61 by means of spaced adhesive means 64.
The adhesive means 64 is preferably in the form of an edible and may be of quickly hardening syrup which is applied at spaced intervals to the opposite faces of candy dise 61 whereupon the records 62 and 63 are disposed in faced abutting relation to the candy 61. An outer cardboard rim 65 engages the marginal edges of the discs 62 and 63 and the candy 61, and an adhesive secured by means of a pressure adhesive tape 66 which extends over the rim 65 and overlaps therecords 62 and 63, as indicated at 67.
Referring now to Figures 17 and 18 there is disclosed a further modification of this invention embodying a box generally indicated at 68. The box 68 is formed of a bottom member 69 having a circular opening 70 in the bottom 71 thereof which is covered by means of a transparent panel 72.
