Description

STATES WILLIAM B. WHERRY,
OF OVERTON, TEXAS.
LAN DSIDE FoR PLOWS.
SPECTFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,729, dated August 21, 1883.
Application filed May 17,1883. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM B. VVHERRY, of Overton, in the county of Rusk and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Adj ustable Landsides for Plows, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a plow to which my improvement has been applied. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same, taken through the line as a), Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the lower end of the plow-standard. Fig. 4c is a perspective view of the lower end of the plow-standard with my improvement applied-to it. Figs. 5, 6, and 7 represent different forms of plow-plates.
The object of this invention is to increase the strength and durability of plow-plates, and obtain the efficiency and steadiness of ordinary turn-plows without their weight.
The invention consists in a lands'ide for plows made with a slotted flange to rest upon the forward side of the plow-standard, and a flange to rest upon the bottom of the furrow, wherebythe plowwill be made stronger, more durable, and more effective, and will be made to run steadier, as will be hereinafter fully described.
A represents the beam, 13 the handles, and O the standard, of an ordinary plow-stock.
D is the landside, which is made with a flange, E, upon its forward edge to rest and fit upon the seat formed upon the lower end of the standard 0.
Upon the lower edge of the landside D is formed a flange, F, which is designed to rest and slide upon the bottom of the furrow.
The flange E has a short slot formed in it to receive the bolt G, which also passes through the standard 0 and through. the plow-plate H. The plow-plate H may be made of any desired shape or size as the character of the work to be done may require, the slot in the flange E of the landside D allowing the said landsideto have a lateral adjustment according as a larger or smaller plow-plate is to be used,
\Vith this improvement also the plow will be made to run steadier, and the plow-plate will be made stronger and more durable, so that a light and effective plow willbe produced to take the place of the ordinary heavy turn-plow.
Having thus described my invention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A landside for plows, made substantially as herein shown and described, with a slotted flange to rest upon the forward side of the plow-standard and a flange to rest upon the bottom of the furrow, as set forth.
2. The combination, with the plow-standard O, the plow-plate H, and the fastening-bolt G, of the landside D, having slotted flange E, and base-flange F, substantially as herein shown and described.
VVILLIAIVI B. VHERRY,
\Vitnesses:
HENRY L. MIL ER, CHARLES C. LEVERETT.
