EXTENSION-TABLE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 283,582, dated August 21, 1883.

Be it known that I, "WILLIAM J. Dnv'nns, of Providence, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented anew and ImprovedExtension-Table, of which the following isa full, clear, and exact description- The object of the invention is to improve extensiontables, as hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in whichsimilarletters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the iigures.

Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved table with the cover removed, and Fig. 2 a

transverse section on line as of Fig. 1.

I make the extension-slides ofthe frame to consist of the two parallel bars c for one end, placed a suitable distance apart, and having no grooves b in the confronting sides, and the `single bars c, attached to the other end and sliding between bars c, and having ribs cl, that run in the grooves of bars a, thus making a substantial sliding or extension frame that will `2 5 not sag between the supports. In this case I have represent-cda central leg, e, for support of the frame at the middle by means of the cross-bar f; but with this form of extensionfrarne this leg e may be dispensed with.

to overcome the tendency of the parts to stick together and facilitate the starting of the eX- tension.

I employ the bar t, fixed on the pivot u, and having a push-and-pull rod, n, connected to it to swing it, so as to cause the ends to press inside bars c against bars c and outside .bars
