Beit known that I, GERTRUDE N. FLETCHER, of the city of Indianapolis, county of Marion, and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Library-Ilables, of which the following is a specification.

In said l drawings, the portions marked A represent the body of the table, B the supports for the shelves when the latter are drawn out, and C said shelves.

The table A is composed, essentially, of a box-like body supported by legs AJ, and provided with a door, A2, at one end, said door being hung with hinges 0,. (See Fig. 7.) Inside the bon-like portion are slides or supports ai for the shelves G, and said slides are preferably provided with anti-friction trucks ai, as shown.

The supports B are strips attached to the lower part of the box-like portion of the table and adapted to be drawn out to support the shelves, as shown in Fig. 3, or to be pushed in beneath said shelves. Each is provided with a leg, B, which is preferably formed by being vsavved from the center of the support, and is pivoted thereto by a pivot-hinge, o. Said legs are adapted to be folded up into the body of said supports, and therefore occupy no eX- tra space when said supports are pushed into `'together by hinges c.

The shelves C rest and slide on the slides c2, or the anti-friciion rollers c. When the latter are provided. They are preferably provided with fronts similar to drawer-fronts, as shown, on which are preferably drawer-pulls c. Each is adapted tov incline downwardly when pulled out to rest on the supports B, and a desirable means of accomplishing this is to construct each shelf in two parts and secure the parts The small rear portion which remains inthe table can then remain horizontal, while the main portion is permitted to assume an inclined position, as shown most plainly in Fig. 3. Stop-pins el are inserted 1n the rear portions of these shelves and enter grooves a* in the sides of the table. Then the shelves are pulled forward, these stop-pins come in contact with the forward ends of said grooves, and said shelves are thus prevented from being pulled entirely out.

The operation oi my saidinvention may be 'recapitulated as follows: The books being in place on the shelves, and thetable closedup, as in Fig. l, and it being desired to use or display said books, the door A2 is first unlocked and swung down into open position, the supports B are then drawn out, and the legs dropped down, and finally the shelf contain` ing the book which it is desired to use is pulled out and dropped down until it rests on the supports, as shown most plainly in Fig. 3, the position of the book on the shelf being indicated by dotted lines.

Having thus fully described my said invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In a library-table, the combination of the box-like body, a series of sliding shelves therein, and a separate sliding support for said shelves upon which either when drawn out will rest, substantially as set forth.
