Application April 12, 1956, Serial No. 577,805 4 Claims. (Cl. 150-39) This invention relates to a wallet, pass case or the like, and more particularly to a wing assembly for a wallet or pass case. 7

The object of the invention is to provide a wing assembly which can be readily attached to a wallet, pass case or the like whereby a plurality of cards, photographs, or other material can be conveniently carried.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wing assembly for use with a wallet, pass ease or the like, the wing assembly of the present invention including a body member which has transparent holders or support members secured thereto, the wing assembly adapted to be secured to a suitable backing member in any suitable manner, as for example by means of a bracket, or bar whereby the bar may either be of the one piece type or two piece type, or else the body member can be secured in place by means of an adhesive or by a suitable line of stitching.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wing assembly for use with a wallet, pass case or the like, the wing assembly being constructed so that it will be rigidly held in place so that a plurality of cards or photographs can be carried in a wallet or the like, the wing assembly including a means for permitting the device to be readily detached when desired and whereby additional wing assemblies can be mounted in place whenever desired or required.

A further object of the invention is to provide a wing assembly which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

Figure 1 is a plan view of a wing assembly, constructed according to the present invention.

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.

Figure 4 is a fragmentary enlarged side elevational view of a bracket, with parts broken away and in section.

Figure 5 is an end elevational view illustrating the presentinvention arranged in a wallet or pass case.

Figure 6 is a fragmentary sectional view illustrating a modification wherein the body member is secured by stitching to the backing member.

Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 2, but showing a modified bracket.

Figure 8 is a fragmentary plan view of a further modified wing assembly.

Figure 9 is a view similar to Figure 8 but showing a further modified wing assembly.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates a body member which can be made of any suitable material such as plastic, cardboard, leather or the like, and secured to the body member 10 is a pair of ice transparent support members 11 which are'made'of a suitable material such as an acetate type of plastic. Each of the support members 11 may have the same construction and each includes a pair of

superposed walls

12 and 13 which may be interconnected together along one longitudinal edge. One of the walls such as the walls 13 may terminate in a flap 14 which is arranged in over-lapping relation with respect to the other wall 12. Ends of the support members 11 may be provided with recesses 15 whereby a person's fingers can be readily arranged in engagement with cards, photographs or the like which are interposed between the pair of

walls

12 and 13.

Each end of the body member 10 is provided with a cutout which is indicated generally by the numeral 16, and the cutout 16 includes a straight portion 17 which terminates in an inner arcuate or circular portion 18. The outer end of each of the straight portions 17 terminates in a wide or flaring portion 19.

There is further provided a bracket 20 which can be used for securing a plurality of the wing assemblies together or else the bracket can be 'used for securing the wing assemblies to a wallet, backing member or the like. The bracket 20 may be made of any suitable material such as metal and includes a first section 21 which terminates in a right angularly arranged second section 22, and extending transversely from the second section-22 is a third section 23. The third section 23 is provided with an offset portion 24, and the outer end of the section 23 terminates in a reduced diameter trunnion 25. The trunnion 25 is releasably mounted'in anaperture or opening 26 in a fourth section 27 which extends from an end of the first section 21. The outer end of the section 27 is curved as at 28. Thus, by applying finger pressure to the offset portion 24 of the section 23, the bracket 20 can be released as when the various Wing assemblies are to be removed or replaced.

Referring to Figure 5 of the drawings, there is illustrated a wallet, pass case or the like which is indicated generally by the numeral 29, while the numeral Sttdesignates a backing member. The wallet 29 may be provided with pockets 31 which receive end portions of the backing member 30, and the bracket 20 may be connected to the backing member 30, for supporting a plurality of the wing assemblies.

As shown in Figure 1, each of the

12 and 13 of the support members 11 terminates in an inner flange 32 of rectangular shape, and the flanges 32 are secured in any suitable manner, as by means of an adhesive, to the outer surtace of the body member 10.

Referring to Figure 6 of the drawings, there is shown a modified arrangement wherein the numeral 33 designates a backing member which may have a body member 34 secured thereto as by means of stitching 35. The body member 34 may have the pair of support members 11 extending therefrom.

Referring to Figure 7 of the drawings, there is shown a modified bracket which is indicated generally by the numeral 36, and the bracket 36 mayconsist of' two pieces. One of the pieces includes a first portion 37 whichhas second portions 38 extending outwardly from each end thereof. There is further provided a rod 39 which has reduced diameter trunnions 40 on each end thereof for engagement with apertures or openings in the portions 38. The portions 38 may extend through cutouts in the body member. v

Referring to Figure 8 of the drawings, there is shown a modified wing assembly which is indicated generally by the numeral 41, and the wing assembly 41 includes a body member 42 which has support members 11 secured thereto. The body member 42 may have a cut out 43 in each end, and each cutout 43 includes a flaring portion 44 which terminates in an inner enlarged circular portionAS.

In Figure 9 there is shown a still further modified Wing assembly which is indicated generally by the numeral-46. *The wing-assembly ldincludesra bodymember'47 which; hasa pair of support-members "11 secured thereto. There is providedon each-'endof"thebody member 47 a=cutout '50, "and each -cutout"50 includes :a substantiallyrectangular-shape -portion48and a' wide portion 49 ha-vingrounded edges adjacent thereto.

"When -it-is desired to remove or replace articles from any of the support members '11, such articles can be readily removed by means of thefinger recesses -and dueto the'provision oft-he -overlappingifiap 14 which "permits flexing of the *walls "12 and '13relative to 'each other. Also, by disengaging the-trunnion 25 from the aperture 26, the bracket -can-be disengaged or released so that the number of bod-ymembers 10 or wing-assemblies can be varied .as :desired. The inherent resiliency of the parts-ofthebracket 20 serve to maintaimthe-parts'in their proper assembled position. The support members 11 include the flanges 32 which aresecure'dto,thebody member -10 in any suitable manner, -as-for exampleby means of an adhesive. As shown in "Figure 5 'the bracket-20 maybe-connected to a-backing member 30, and end portions of the-backingmember =50 may engage pockets -31 which form-part of -a*wallet"29. 'Thus, a hinged arrangement is provided whereby the various-support-members 11 canbe swung or pivotedabout-an axis extending through the bracket so-thataccess can-be had to any'of the articles in the-support members. In Figure-6 there is shown a modification whereininstead of-usinga-bracket-such as the bracket 2 9,;a -body member'34issecured to-a backing mernber -33-by means-of suitableline of stitching 35. In Figure? there'is shown a modified bracket which isindicatedby the numeral 56, and'the bracket 36 maybe a two'pieee type-which in- -cludes.the removable rod '39. '-Thus, duetothepro- -visionsof the cutouts such asthe cutout :ldin each end of-the' body member 10, the :wing assembly can be used with either a one piece bracket asashownrin Figure 2 or a two piece bracket. as shown in Eigure 7. ,InFigure 8 there. is shown ,a modified wing; assembly which-includes a :body member.42 having cutoutsfytlgimeach end. In Figure :9 there is shown a further ,modified wing assembly 46 which includes a body member47 having a different shaped cutout 50 ineach end. Thewing assemblies shown inFigures 8. and 9 are adaptedto be used with either of the brackets '20 or.36 shown in Figures 2 andl.

The cutouts insure that the wing assemblies can be readily inserted and the cutouts insure that the parts will not accidentally work loose from their proper position.

I claim: a

1. In a wing assembly, a body member having a cutout rin eachtendtthereof, each of said cutouts including a straight portion terminating in --an enlarged circular portion, the ,outer-end of eachstraightportion terminating in a flaring portion, Ga pairgoftransparentsupport members extending outwardly from the longitudinal side portions of said body-memberand-secured thereto, each of said support members including superposed first and second Walls having a longitudinal edge connected together, a flap extending from one of said walls and overlapping the other wall, the outer ends of said support members -being provided with fingerengaging recesses, the inner send of reach of said walls terminating in a rectangular flange, said flanges being secured to the outer surface .of .said body member.

In:=a wing-assembly, a body member having a cutout in each end thereof, each of said cutouts-including a substantially rectangular:portionterrninating' in an 1 outer flaring portion,a pair of transparent support members extending outwardlyfrom the longitudinal side por'tions of said bddy-member and. secured thereto,=each of said body members -including superposed first and second wallshaving a longitu'dinal edge connected together, a flap extending fromone of said walls and overlapping the other wall, the innerend of each of said walls terminating in a rectangular flange, said flanges being secured to the outer surface of saidbody member.

4. A'wing assembly, comprising a body member having a cut-out extending inwardly from each end thereof, said cut-outs terminatingin outer flaring portions, a pair of transparent supportmembers extending outwardly from the longitudinal :side-portions or said' body member'and secured thereto,=each=of said support members including superposed first and second walls having a longitudinal edge connected together, afiap extending "from one of said walls and overlapping theother wall,-the outer ends of saidsupport members being provided with finger engaging recesses, the inner end of each of said walls terminating in a rectangular flange, said flanges being secured to the outer surface of said body member.
