1 Claim. (Cl. 211-86) This invention relates to an attachment for a drafting table and more particularly to a rack for supporting in a convenient manner substantially all the necessary drafting tools as may be required.

As is Well known, when drafting or designing, it is of paramount importance to obtain ready access to the various drawing instruments being utilized. If these drawing instruments are deposited in drawers or the like, the various instruments will not be all accessible with any degree of convenience and there is the possibility that various instruments and implements will become scarred, damaged, or soiled by contact with other of the instruments. The present invention accomplishes its primary object by providing means whereby the instruments can all be conveniently located in a manner so that they are readily accessible, free from damage, clean and unscratched, and therefore, ready for use at all times.

A further object of the invention resides in the provision of a rack adapted for attachment to a drafting table or the like which supports various drafting implements and instruments in a manner whereby the rack is longitudinally adjustable with respect to the table, angularly adjustable with respect to the table, and may be rotated so as to be horizontally adjustable for ready access to a particular implement.

Still further objects and features of this invention reside in the provision of a rack that is strong and durable, simple in construction and manufacture, which can be readily attached in any convenient manner to various existing drafting tables and the like, and which is effective in operation.

These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this rack, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:

Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the rack as operatively installed on a drafting table;

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the plane of line 22 in Figure 1 illustrating the construction of the longitudinal mounting means used in the invention;

Figure 3 is a sectional view as taken along the plane of line 3-3 in Figure 2 illustrating the construction of the mounting plate and depending supports for rulers;

Figure 4 is a verical sectional detailed view as taken along the plane of line 4--4 in Figure 2 illustrating the roller means utilized in attaching the rack to the drafting table;

Figure 5 is a perspective view of one of the mounting trays as is utilized for supporting writing instruments;

Figure 6 is a perspective view of another one of the mounting trays provided with support slots for drafting implements;

Figure 7 is a perspective view of another of the trays used for supporting drafting instruments; and

Figure 8 is a plan view of the invention.

With continuing reference to the accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral 10 generally designates a conventional drafting table on which the rack comprising the present invention and generally indicated by reference numeral 12 is adapted 26. The block 26 carries wheels 28 and extends between the strip 16 and the rest of the table 10 to slidably mount the mounting bar 20 while restraining the mounting bar 20.

Pivotally mounted on a pin is a support brace 32.

V The pin 30 is threaded and a wing nut (not shown) is provided for locking the brace 32 is an angularly se lected position relative to the mounting bar 20. Carried by the brace 32 isa pair of plates 36 and 38 which have wheels, as at 40, mounted therebetween. The Wheels 40 y are adapted to engage the rod 18 utilizing the rod 18 as a rail.

Secured between the side members 24 and 22 there is a mounting piece 42 forming a portion of the mounting bar 20. A pair of fulcrum arms 44 and 46 are pivotally adjustably attached to the assembly mounting piece 42 by means of a pin 48 which is lockingly held in place by means of a wing nut 50 threadedly secured on the pin 48. The fulcrum arms 44 and 46 carry a filler piece 52 therebetween which is recessed, as at 54, for reception of the pin 56 depending from a mounting plate 58. Further, an apertured disk 60 is supported by a pair of spaced bars 62 and 64 secured to the filler piece 52. The pin 56 extends through the disk 60 and through a support 66 depending from the mounting plate 58. In this manner, the mounting plate 58 is rotatable with respect to the disk 66) and the fulcrum arms 44 and 46.

On either side of the disk 60 there are provided ruler supporting members 68 and 70. The ruler holder 68 may be formed in any suitable manner with a triangularshaped cavity 72 therein and is provided with a stop block 74 for limiting the extent of insertion of the ruler into the recess 72, thereby maintaining the ruler readily available. Likewise, the ruler holder 70 may be provided with a substantially rectangular-shaped recess 76 therein also provided with a stop 79 for limiting the extent of insertion of the ruler into the recess 76.

Mounted on the mounting plate 58 are a plurality of supporting trays 78, 80 and 82. The supporting tray 78 can be best seen in Figure 6, and is provided with a plurality of different sized, vertically extending slots 84 therein for reception of such drafting implements as triangles 86, erasing shield 88, French curves (not shown) or the like.

Referring to Figure 7, it will be seen that herein the tray 82 is shown. The tray 82 is provided with a plurality of pins which are provided for supporting drafting instruments, as at 92.

The tray 80, shown in Figure 5, is provided with a plurality of angularly extending recesses 94 therein for reception of writing instruments 96 and additionally has substantially L-shaped or angle- shaped shelves 98 and 100 afiixed thereto for supporting such items as erasers and the like.

Each of the trays 78, 80 and 82 has support blocks 102, 104, and 106 appended thereto which have angulated lower surfaces 108, 110 and 112, respectively. These angulated lower surfaces afiord means of mounting the trays 78, 80 and 82 at a desired angle whereby the various implements and instruments may be readily viewed and obtained.
