" SPECIFIATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 282,527, dated 'August 7, 1883. Application filed February 21,1883. (No model.)

To all whom, it may concern,.-

zen ofthe United States, residing at Waukesha, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertainsto make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or igures'of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. l

The object of myinvention is to provide device for binding samples, pamphlets, newspapers, &c., togetherina neat and convenient form for handling.

The construction of my invention is eX- plained by reference t0 the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l represents aperspective view, and Fig. 2 a cross-section.

`Like parts are represented by the same reference-letters in both views.

A and Bare clasps, between which the samples or pamphlets are inserted.

C C C are screws upon which the papers are fastened, said screws being pointed and inserted through the samples.

I) D D are hand-nuts by which the clasps A and B are drawn firmly together upon the samples.

The lower ends of screws C are rigidly attached to clasp B, while their upper ends pro 3 5 j ect through holes inclasp A. The edges E E of the clasps A B overlap each other slightly,

and are held in contact by screws F F F. The clasps thus united protect the margin of the samples and form aneat and substantial bind- Be it known that I, CALVIN J AcKsoN, a citiing, by which thesamples are retained in contact and conveniently handled. The screws F lare respectively provided with nuts G G G,

which nuts are rigidly fastened to the interior clasp, B. The upper clasp, A, is provided with slots H H H for the reception of the outward ends of the screws F, whereby said-clasps may be separated from each other to conform to the thickness of the samples secured between them. The front edges, I I, of the clasps converge toward each other, whereby they impinge more iirmly upon the samples. The rear ends of the clasps are curved outward from eachother, as shown, Aforming semicircle recesses J J, which permits the rear edges to overlap each other and the liat parallel sur faces to approach each other, whereby asmall las well as a large number of samples may be screws C and F and nuts D and G, `as set forth.
