ALBERT C. COUCH, or BO TON, MASS, ASSIGNOR, BY MESN ASSIGNMENTS,
TO THE MIOA TIP AND LINING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
-- HAT oR CAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent N0. 282,442, dated July 31, 1883.
Application filed April 6, 1883. (Model) To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT O. COUCH, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hats and Caps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. i
This invention'relates to the sweat-linings of hats and caps; and it consists of a lining madeof a strip of mica, either alone or covered by the ordinary sweat-lining of leather or other material, and secured in place in any suitable manner, all substantially as hereinafter described, reference being had to'the accompanying plate of drawings, in 'which Figures 1 and 2 are central vertical sections of. a hat havingmy improved sweat-lining.
In the drawings, A represents a hat made in any of the usual manners, and of any of the usual or desired styles and shapes.
B is the sweat-lining, made of astrip of mica, preferably covered, and thus held in place by the usual sweat-lining, O, of leather or other suitable material, secured inposition in the ordinary manner. The leather lining C may be dispensed with, and, whether dispensed with or not, the mica lining B may be secured in position by paste or other suitable adhesive material, or stitches, and the mica lining may be bound on its edges with cloth a, or other suitable material, andby such binding stitched .or secured in position in the hat, 810.; or the mica lining may be attached to the leather lining. A sweat-lining made of mica absolutely prevents the passage of perspiration from the head, or oil or water through the hat to the outside thereof.
I am aware of the Letters Patent granted to R. Lanstrom, dated October 26, 1880, and claim'nothing shown or described therein.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s
1. A hat, cap, or other head-covering having a sweat-lining of a strip of mica, in combination with a covering of leather, substan tially as described; 7 r
2., A hat, cap, or other head-covering hav-- ing a sweat-lining" of a strip of mica bound on its edges With cloth. or other suitable material, substantially as described.
I11 testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subsribing Witnesses.
' ALBERT 0-COUCH.
