TRAVELER CLEANER Filed April 17, 1957 INVENTOR.

'4 Claims. (Cl. 57119) This invention relates to a traveler cleaner for spinning frames twisting frames and the like and has for an object the provision of such a cleaner which shall be adapted for very close adjustment relative to the traveler, whereby all fibrous accumulations, such as lint and the like, are removed from the traveler as it passes the cleaner.
Another object of my invention is to provide a traveler cleaner of the character designated which shall have a concave inner surface which extends in a vertical plane substantially normal to a horizontal plane passing through the ring around which the traveler revolves, whereby the cleaner partially encircles the adjacent portion of the traveler to bring about more effective cleaning of the traveler.
A further object of my invention is to provide a traveler cleaner of the character designated which shall be simple of construction, economical of manufacture and which is particularly adapted for installation on conventional type spinning frames.
Heretofore in the art to which my invention relates various forms of traveler cleaners have been proposed. While such cleaners heretofore employed have been satisfactory for the removal of large accumulations of fibrous materials, such as lint and the like, they have not been effective to keep the travelers free of small accumulations of fibrous materials, due to the fact that the cleaners could not be adjusted to very close clearances relative to the traveler. Also, the fibrous accumulations above and below the traveler have not been contacted by the cleaners heretofore proposed.
To overcome the above and other difliculties, I provide a traveler cleaner embodying a relatively fiat vertically extending member having a concave inner surface which extends in a vertical plane substantially normal to a horizontal plane passing through the ring around which the traveler revolves. The concave inner surface is adapted to be positioned adjacent and outwardly of the ring a distance to permit passage of the traveler and yet close enough to remove substantially all fibrous accumulations therefrom.
A device embodying features of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view showing my improved traveler cleaner mounted on the ring rail of a conventional type spinning frame;
Fig. 2 is a plan view; and,
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view taken generally along the line III-III of Fig. 2.
Referring now to the drawing for a better understanding of my invention, I show a section of the ring rail 10 of a spinning frame. The ring rail 10 is provided with the usual openings therein for receiving a ring holder 11 which is secured to the ring rail 10 by any suitable means, such as by a set screw 12. A slot 13 is provided in the ring holder 11 to permit the ring holder to be sprung slightly whereby the lower flange 14 of a ring 15 United States Patent "ice may be forced into a suitable recess 16 provided in the upper portion of the ring holder 11, as shown in Fig. 3. The ring 15 is of the conventional type which is provided with an upper annular flange 17 around which the traveler indicated at 18 revolves.
My improved traveler cleaner is indicated generally at 19 and comprises a horizontal base member 21 having a suitable opening therethrough for receiving a screw 22. A suitable opening 23 is provided in the ring rail 10 for receiving the screw 22 whereby the traveler cleaner 19 is locked in selected positions relative to flange 17 of the ring 15. Formed integrally with the base member 21 is an L-shaped upstanding member 24. As shown in the drawing, the traveler cleaner 19 is formed of a relatively flat strip of material bent at right angles to form the base member 21 and the upstanding member 24. The inner surface of the upstanding member 24 is of a concave shape as at 26 whereby it partially encircles the adjacent portion of the traveler 18, as clearly shown in Fig. 3. As shown in Fig. 2, the inner end of the upstanding member 24 extends in a vertical plane substantially normal to a horizontal plane passing through the ring 15.
From the foregoing description, the operation of my improved traveler cleaner will be readily understood. The traveler cleaner 19 is adjusted to its proper position relative to the ring 15 and the traveler 18 by pivoting the traveler cleaner about the screw 22 until the concave surface 26 is in the proper position. The traveler cleaner 19 is then locked in the adjusted position by means of the screw 22. With the traveler cleaner 19 thus mounted on the ring rail 10, the concave surface 26 partially encircles the adjacent portion of the traveler 18. Accordingly, as the traveler l8 revolves upon the ring 15, any lint collected on the traveler will be removed by the concave surface 26 of the cleaner as the traveler passes the concave surface.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that I have devised an improved traveler cleaner which may be adjusted to very close clearance relative to the traveler with the adjacent surface of the cleaner partially encircling the adjacent portion of the traveler. By providing a concave surface at the inner end of the traveler cleaner, the portion thereof directly opposite the traveler is of a curvature corresponding substantially to the adjacent curvature of the traveler, thus resulting in more effective cleaning of the traveler as it passes the concave surface of the cleaner. Furthermore, by providing the concave surface at the inner end of the traveler cleaner, the upper and lower edges of the cleaner are in position to remove any fibrous material carried by the upper and lower portions of the traveler.
While I have shown my invention in but one form, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art that it is not so limited, but is susceptible of various changes and modifications without departing from the spirit thereof, and I desire, therefore, that only such limitations shall be placed thereupon as are specifically set forth in the appended claims.
What I claim is:
i. In a traveler cleaner for spinning frames, twisting frames and the like having a ring around which the traveler revolves, a base member adapted to be adjustably supported outwardly of said ring, and a relatively flat vertically extending member connected to said base member and having a concave inner surface adapted to be positioned adjacent and outwardly of said ring a distance to permit passage of the traveler.
2. In a traveler cleaner for spinning frames, twisting frames and the like having a ring around which the traveler revolves, a relatively flat strip of material bent toudefineta substantially horizontal baseportion, and an upstanding portion, said upstanding portion extending upwardly and inwardly and having a concave inner surface extenrl ing inat vertical plane-substantially normal toa horizontal plarie passing thro'ughsaid ring and adapted to bepositioned adjacent (and outwardly of said ring a distance to-permit passage of the traveler. I
3. For use with spinning frames twisting frames and thet lil ce having a ringrail witha ring around which a traveler revolves -operativelymounted thereon, a traveler cleaner adapted to be mounted-on said ring rail and comprising --a:horizonta1 base portion formed integrally with a relatively fiat: upstandingportion extending in i a vertical plane-substantiallynormal to a horizontal plane pass ing': through the ring aroiind which the traveler revolves and having a concave inner surface adapted to be posi- 4 iqnedadjaqentand ntwatsl of said ring a distance to permit passage of the traveler.
4. In a traveler cleaner for spinning frames, twisting frames and the like having a ring around which the traveler revolves, a relatively flat member adapted to be mounted outwardly of said ring-whereby it extends in a vertical plane substantially normal to a horizontal plane passing through .said ring;v said member having a concave inner surface adap ted to be positioned adjacent and out- Wardly of said ring a distance to permit passage of the travele:.
