c 1 A CSQL i an .L H 8 plate, and around the thread-guide socket The marginal flange 20 around the threadguide-socket is preferably notched or split in a number of places, and may be given. a tapered or conical form, as most clearly illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6. Secured in the thread-guide support as thus constructed is a porcelain thread-guide 21, which prefer-- ably has a circlnnferential groove 22 and a bottom. flange The grooved portion 232 of the porcelain guide 21 is preferably of a truncated form, the diameter of the bottom flange 23 being preferably substantially equal to the diameter oi the body portion of the porcelain guide immediately under the top flange thereof, and I regard this as an especially desirable form of construction, as I have found in practice, that by forcing a threadguide of this form into its socket, as illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6, the thread-guide will be clamped and held in a rigid firm manner. It is obvious, however, that the body portion of the thread-guide need not necessarily be of tapering or truncated form, as herein shown.
To adjustably secure the thread-guide supporting-plate 1'? to the finger-head, the plate 17 extends loosely through the front flange 14: of the finger-head, and is adjustably clamped in position, so that when the same has been moved in or out, or swung sideways to the desired position, it may then be solidly clamped or fastened. The clamping mechanism preferably employed coinprises a blank-headed screw 24: which extends through clamping-plates 25, and through a slot 27 in the plate 17, with a nut 28 threaded on to the lower end of the screw 24.
I am aware that numerous changes may be made in practicing my invention by those who are skilled in the art, without departing from the scope thereof as expressed in the claims. I do not Wish, therefore, to be limited to the construction I have herein shown and described, but
"What I do claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is In a construction of the class described, the combination of a thread-guide of porcelain having top and bottom flanges forming between them a circumferential groove, and
a fiat sheet metal plate constituting a holder having a spring-flange adapted to spring into engagement with the groove of the thread-guide between the flanges when the same is forced into place therein, whereby the thread-guide will be frictionally held from turning and displacement by the walls of said spring flange and will project both above and below the sheet metal holder.
In testimony whereof I havehereunto set my hand, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses LEWIS, T, HOUG-HTUN.
