Application February 21, 1955, Serial No. 489,497
1 Claim. (Cl. 150-1) My present invention relates to containers, and more particularly to laundry bags.
The principal object of my invention is to produce an improved laundry bag.
Another object is to produce an improved laundry bag hanging in a closet from a conventional coat hanger, and
Other objects and novel features comprising the construction and operation of my invention will be more apparent as the description of the same progresses.
In the drawings illustrating my invention:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the laundry bag supported from a conventional coat hanger in a partly closed position of engagement.
Fig. 2 is a partial side elevation and cross-section, portions being broken out and other portions being shown partially raised to show a side opening.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view showing the bag in a fully closed position with the coat hanger removed.
Referring more in detail to the drawings, 10 indicates a bag having a side opening 11 with closure snap fasteners 12. The top of the bag 10 is provided with double draw strings 13 and 14. The draw string 13 is located in a hemmed-over portion 15. The draw string 13 passes through the hemmed portion 15 in a continuous circle entering and emerging from a left-hand opening. The draw string 14 passes through the hemmed portion in an opposite direction entering and emerging from a single opening on the right-hand side of the bag.
On the inner back side of the bag 10 are pockets 17 and 18. The opposite ends 20 and 21 of a conventional bowed coat hanger member 19 are positioned in the pockets 17 and 18 and the draw strings 13 and 14 are pulled tight, as shown in Fig. 1 and tied together in any suitable manner. The result is that the coat hanger 19 is securely held in the pockets 17 and 18 and the hanger hook 22 may be engaged over a clothes pole or hook. From this position soiled garments may be 1; Stats Patent ice deposited in the bag 10 through the opening 11. When it is desired to remove the laundry bag from the closet or other place, the strings 13 and 14 are released and the bag is removed from the coat hanger 19. The strings 13 and 14 now tightly gather the neck of the bag together, as shown in Fig. 3. With the snap fasteners engaged, the bag is tightly closed and ready to go to the laundry.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
An improved laundry bag comprising in combination two sidewall members lying in spaced-apart relation, said sidewall members being joined together to define a bottom edge and two vertical side edges of a laundry bag enclosure body, that portion of the enclosure body occurring opposite to the said bottom edge, being open to constitute a mouth for the laundry bag through which a coat hanger may be passed, a coat hanger element for supporting garments, said coat hanger element being detachably located within the month, said coat hanger including a retaining strip and a centrally located hook normally projecting from the mouth for engagement with a horizontal supporting rod, pocket forming pieces secured against inner opposite surfaces of the mouth of the laundry bag to define strip holding pockets, opposite ends of the said retaining strip of the coat hanger being engaged in said pockets, said laundry bag mouth further being formed with a drawstring retaining hem and drawstring means located through said hem, said pockets, drawstring hem and drawstrings cooperating when the drawstrings are tightened to securely hold the mouth of the laundry bag in a firmly closed position over the retaining strip of the coat hanger, said enclosure body having formed therein a second aperture located below the mouth of the laundry bag for receiving laundry articles therethrough, and said enclosure body, together with laundry articles contained in the bottom thereof being releasable from said coat hanger and garments supported on the hanger when the drawstrings are released and the mouth is extended.
