em-ins. I
The present invention relates to laundry bags and more particularly to laundry bags having a plurality of separate compartments for the segreation of various classes of articles to be laundered.
The primary objects of the instant invention are to provide a laundry bag having a plurality of compartments whereby various classes of articles, such as articles to be washed only, articles to be washed and ironed, white clothes, colored clothes, etc., may be segregated; to provide readily distinguishable means for identifying the various compartments of the bag, one from the other; to provide means whereby when the laundry bag is properly hung, the opening of each compartment will be suspended in open position for the convenient reception of articles to be laundered; and, to provide means whereby each compartment may be independently tied in closed position when filled and independently opened for selectively emptying a compartment.
An illustrative embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of the laundry bag of my invention showing the top open side in substantially flat condition;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the bag when it is properly suspended with the compartment openings in open condition;
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevational view thereof;
Fig. 4 is a vertical lateral section therethrough;
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the bag filled with articles to be laundered and with the openings to the compartments closed .by the draw cords; and
Fig. 6 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of the bag showing how the draw cords are strung.
Referring then to the drawing in which like reference numerals refer to like parts throughout the several views, the laundry bag is here shown as having a rear fabric panel III, a front panel II and a center panel I2 which panels are of substantially the same rectangular size and which are sewed together at their bottom edges 25 and their side edges 26 to form open top, front and rear compartments I3 and I4. The top edges of the fabric panels III, II and I2 are folded over and sewed to the face of the panels to form the open end hems I5, I6 and I! respectively.
The hem I5 of rear panel I0 is provided with a centrally located gromet I8 and two other gromets I9 spaced outwardly therefrom and also spaced inwardly from the ends of the hem. The
2V hem I"! of the panel I2 is provided with an offcenter gromet 20.
A, draw cord 2| has one end extending out of the right end of hem I5, is strung through hem IE to its left end, continues into the left end of hem I1 and extends outwardly beyond the right end of hem I1, the ends thereof being tied to form a, knot 22. Another draw cord 23 has one end extending out of the left end of hem I6 and out of its right end, continues into the right end of hem l1 and extends outwardly beyond the end of hem I1, the free end thereof being tied to form a knot 24.
The panel I I and the draw cord 23 which closes the front compartment I3 is of a different color or is otherwise made readily distinguishable from the other panels and the other cord 2|.
One of the compartments is intended to receive, for instance, articles to be washed only whereas the other compartment may receive articles to be washed and ironed. A distinguishing color or other readily identifying means is provided so that when the bag is being filled, the articles to be laundered may be placed in their proper compartment. Likewise, when the bag is received at the laundry, a given compartment may be individually opened and the contents therein placed with the proper class of articles to be laundered.
While the bag is being filled, it is hung as shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. Gromets I8 and I9 are slipped over hooks and gromet 20 is placed on the same hook with gromet I8 whereby the bag will hang, as shown, with the openings of each compartment hanging widely open whereby the compartment may be conveniently filled.
As each compartment I3 and I4 is filled, each is then closed by pulling their respective draw cords 2| or 23 and each cord is then held in drawn position by tying a knot in the cord near the hem.
While but one specific embodiment of the invention has been herein shown and described, it will be understood that certain details of the construction shown may be altered or omitted without departing from the spirit of the invention as the same is defined in the appended claims.
Iclaim:
1. A laundry bag having a rear fabric panel, a front fabric panel and an intermediate panel all secured together at their bottom and side edges to form a pair of spaced compartments each having an open top, centrally located means along the top edge of the rear panel for supporting the rear panel, outwardly spaced means along the upper edge of the rear panel located a. substantial distance from the side edges of the rear panel for supporting the rear panel, means oflset lengthwise of the center of the intermediate panel for hanging the intermediate panel offset from the central means for hanging the rear panel and adapted to be supported therewith.
2. A laundry bag having a rear fabric panel, a front fabric panel and an intermediate panel therebetween all secured together at their bottom and side edges to form a pair of spaced compartments each having an open top, an open end hem adjacent the top edge of each panel, a draw cord extending through the hem of the rear panel and into the hem of the intermediate panel with the free ends thereof extending out the open end of the hem of the rear and intermediate panels, and another draw cord extending through the hem of the front panel and into the hem of the intermediate panel with the outer free ends thereof extending out the opposite open end of the hem of the front and intermediate panels.
