application ledanuary 8, 191e. Serial No. 810,962.r
This invention relates to what are known p as laundry bags, and the object Ythereof is to provide a bag of thisclass which is of novel construction and 'which may =be susfit pended from a wall, the door of a wardrobe, or vany other suitable support in anl open. condition so that articles to be washed may be easily thrown thereinto, or packed therein, from time to time; a further object being toprovide a bag of the class specified which, when full, may be convenientlyvclosed and sent to a laundry with the articles to be washedtherein, and in which the washed or laundried articles may be returned to the owner' of the bag by the laundry; and with these and other objects in View, the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described' and claimed.
1The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification of which the accompanying drawing forms a` part, in which the separate parts of my -improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views,- and in which Figure l is a front view aof my improved laundry bag and showigthernethod of suspending it in connection with a suitable supi port ;-Fig. 2 a partial section on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, and on an enlarged scale Fig. 3 a partial section on` the line 3-'3 of Fig. l,and on an enlarged scale ,-Fig. 4 a
view. on an enlarged scale of a detail of the construction shown in Fig.` l, and indicating the method of forming'a name card pocket or holder which is also shown in Fig. l;- Fig. 5 a partial section on the line 5--5 of Fig. 1, and on an enlarged scale ,-Fig. 6 a section on the line 6 6 of Fig. 1, and on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 7 a diagrammatic view showing the method of forming the name card pocket or holder.
ln the practice of my invention, ll provide ,i
.preferably of bellows form, as are also the "sides g .of the pocket f, and the width ofv a bag a composed of canvas or any other suitable fibrous material and consisting of a back b, a front 0 connected with the back b by folding sides d and between which and the back is the main bag pocket e, and the front c is preferably provided with a supplemental pocket f consisting of a front member connected with the front c of the mam pocket by folding'the side members g.
The back of the bag is extended at the top thereof above the front o. to form a flap b2, and the top of the flap b2 is folded inwardly to form three thicknesses, as shown at b3 in Fig. 6, and as indicated clearly in Fig. 4, the folding lines being shown at b4, b5 and b, this folding Aproducing the two main thicknesses of the fold, as indicated at 57 and 118 together with a narrow flange strip b9. ,1f rl-he method of this 'fold and the parts produced are also #indicated in Fig. 7, and
the inner or front part 127 of said'` fold is provided with a name card holder centrally thereof, as shown at Z110, and consisting of oppositely arranged pockets Z211, into which a name card may be inserted. In forming this name card holder, or the pockets 511, the part 67 of the fold, which is the inner or face part, is cut to form triangular top and bottom flaps 612 and triangular end,` flaps L13, and the end flaps 1113 are folded inwardly or ybetween the parts b? and bs of the fold, while the top flap is folded backwardly around the part bg of the fold, and the bottom flap is folded inwardly or between the parts b2 and b9, and the top and bottom edges vof the Open space between the pockets fold, and said fold is stitched transversely,
as shown at '(314 to hold the end flaps Z213, and the fold is also stitched at the bottom thereo f, as shown at b, and the'space 711 for a name card is thus formed without raw edges of any'kind,'as are also the pockets 7211 into which the ends of the name card are inserted.
The top portion of the front c of the bag is preferably a little wider than the top portion of the back, and at the opposite side edges thereof, the front portion is provided with pockets vh to receive the ends of a detachable expansion bar z' which is designed the front c of the bag tapers downwardly to the`bottom, where it is practically of thesame width as the back b. The' sides d of the bag may also be of the same width from top to bottom, but are preferably tapered, as indicated in Fig. 1, and the top portions of said sides are inclined from the top of the back b, or the fold thereof, downwardly to the top of the front.
The top of the back, or thev fold thereof, is provided with a row of eyelets 2 which range'transversely of the bag, and four of which are shown, and two hooks or similar devices may be connected with a support j, from which the bag may be suspended, and in which position the bag will be open at all times, and soiled clothes or other articles to be laundried may be thrown thereinto at any time until it is desired to send the bag, with its contents, to the laundry, when it may be detached from the support j.
The side edge corners of the front c are provided below the top thereof with eyelets l k, and the opposite side edges of the back b are provided with corresponding eyelets 71:2, and the top side corners of the supplemental pocket f are provided with similar eyelets 7c3, and a double draw cord fm. is passed through these eyelets, as clearly indicated in Fig. 1, and this cord incloses the sides d, and the back b, and in order to close the bag and secure it, all that is necessary is to detach the bar i and then draw the cord mtight and tie it in the usual manner, this operation will also, as will be understood, close the supplemental pocket f, and in this condition, the bag may be sent to the laundry, and when the contents have been laundried, the said laundried contents may be replaced in the bag, or in the pocket f andreturned to the owner.
The supplemental front pocket f is not an absolutely essential feature of my improved laundry bag, but I prefer to employ it, in
order that articles. to be laundried may be separated when'put in the bag, as, for instance, handkerchiefs, collars, cuffs and the like may be placed in the supplemental pocket f, and larger articles in the main -bag or pocket e, and such articles may also be kept separate when returned bythe laundry to the owner.
By extending the back b above the front c,
the name plate 61 may be easily seen at all times, even when the bag is closed, and this flz.
construction also facilitates the hanging orifpansion bar, andithe front of the bag being suspending of the bag from a support, and facilitates the placing of articles to be laundried in the bag, and the support j may consist of the wall of a closet, 0r the door of a closet, or any other suitable surface on which the bag maybe suspended, as shown and described. I
