Description

Nov. 19, 1957 R. J. KRIMBEL 2,813,320
ARTICLE HOLDER Filed March 1, 1955 iio b'elr i' J KQi/nbL v 'INVENTOR ATTORNEYS United States Patent ARTICLE HOLDER Robert J. Krimbel, Newport, Oreg. Application March 1, 1955, Serial No. 491,371 2 Claims. (Cl. 24-3) This invention relates to a frame or support designed for holding a comparatively short length of cloth material in such a way that the cloth material will be exposed above a pocket in which the frame is positioned, in such a manner as to simulate 'a handkerchief commonly worn in the handkerchief pocket of a coat or similar garment.
An important object of the invention is to provide a frame of this character which will hold the cloth material extended against wrinkling or becoming mussed, to render the cloth material unsightly as a decorative article.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a frame including a bar formed of offset or zig-zag portions that tend to not only strengthen the frame and hold the cloth material against sliding toward one end thereof, but provide a bar which will have exceptionally gripping quality for gripping the pocket of the wearer holding the frame against accidental displacement.
A further object of the invention is to provide a bar of this character which may carry an ornamental design such as an initial to render the device exceptionally pleasing to the eye.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter described and the novel features thereof described in the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Fig. 1 is an elevational view illustrating the application of the device.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the device prior to the positioning of the device in the pocket.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the frame.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a further modified form of the frame.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a still further form of frame.
Referring to the drawing in detail the device comprises a bar 5 which is of a length to extend across the entire length of the conventional handkerchief pocket of a coat or garment.
As shown, the bar 5 is formed in a zig-zag manner and a pair of inverted U-shaped members 6 are formed integral with the ends of the bar 5. The inner legs 9 of U- shaped members 6 are disposed within the pocket and outer legs 8 are disposed on the outer side of the pocket.
These downwardly extended legs 8 cooperate with inner legs 7 in gripping the upper edge of the pocket in which the frame is positioned.
Openings 9 are formed in the ends of the downwardly extended legs 8 and accommodate the end links of the chains 10 to which a metal initial or similar ornamental device is attached, the ornamental device in the present showing being indicated by the reference character A.
The chains 10 are lengths to permit the ornamental letter or member to hang over the outer surface of the pocket.
i. an wanna... t: 1
Z he re eren e character 1 indica es a length at, 9 9th m te ial which is termed w th. a hem of a width to receive e zigzag or atisetha o the hematite hem 12 being also of a 'width so that it will be possible to slide of the length of cloth material simulating a handkerchief, over the U-shaped members, the zig-zag portion of the bar being sufiicient to hold the length of cloth material simulating the handkerchief, in an upstanding position as shown by the drawing. It will of course be understood that when the cloth material is being positioned over the bar, the chain 10 will be removed from the downwardly extended end 8, permitting the positioning of the cloth material, the chain to be returned to the position as shown by Fig. 2 of the drawings, after the cloth material has been threaded over the bar.
In the form of the invention as shown by Fig. 5 of the drawing, the frame comprises a main bar 13 formed with offset portions, and substantially U-shaped ends 14 adapted to fit over the ends of a pocket, the extremities of the U-shaped ends 14 being connected by a straight bar 15 that is adapted to overlie a portion of the outer surface of the pocket in which the frame is positioned. In positioning the cloth material over the frame as shown by Fig. 5 of the drawing, the cloth material is slit along one side of the hem 12 to permit the bar 13 to he slid thereinto to support and hold the cloth material simulating a handkerchief.
In this form of the invention, openings 16 are provided adjacent to the bar ends of the bar 15 so that a chain such as indicated by the numeral 10 in Fig. 2 of the drawing, may be suspended from the bar in supporting an ornamental device such as an initial or the like.
The structure shown by Fig. 6 of the drawing includes the main bar 17 and a straight bar 18, the bars 17 and 18 being connected at their ends by the U-shaped end pieces 19.
The bar 18 in this form of the invention provides a support for the ornamental initial or letter indicated by the reference character 20.
In this form of the invention as well as the form as shown by Fig. 5, the length of cloth material simulating a handkerchief is positioned over the bar 17 and the bars 17 and 18 clamped over the outer surface of the handkerchief pocket of the garment with which it is used, supporting the cloth material simulating a handkerchief.
It will also be seen that due to this construction, lengths of cloth material of various design and color may be readily and easily positioned or removed from the frame, so that a simulated handkerchief may be carried to blend with a particular tie.
While the specific details of one embodiment of this invention have been herein shown and described the invention is not confined thereto as changes and alterations may be made without departing from the spirit and scope thereof as defined in the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A frame for supporting a simulated handkerchief in a pocket of a garment, comprising a bar of zig-zag formation providing offset portions adapted to support a length of cloth material simulating a handkerchief, a pair of inverted U-shaped members at the ends of said bar adapted to grip over the upper edge of a pocket supporting said bar concealed within the pocket with the cloth material exposed above the pocket a chain secured between said members, and an initial fixed to said chain.
2. A frame for supporting a simulated handkerchief in the pocket of a garment, comprising a bar of zig-zag formation providing offset portions adapted to support a length of cloth material simulating a handkerchief, a U-shaped end members formed at the ends of the bar adapted to grip over the edge of a pocket, the edge of the cloth material being adapted to be exposed above the edge of the pocket, said U-shaped end members having openings in which end links of chains are supported, and an ornamental device supported by said chain exteriorly of the pocket over which the U-shaped end members are positioned in supporting the frame.
