NURSING UNIT CAP HAVING AN INSET NIPPLE SHOULDER ABUTTING FLANGE Filed March 28. 1955 INVENTOR Y5? VA/V T /7 Aa/P/rJ/An 17/5 ATTORNEY United States Patent G NURSING UNIT CAP HAVING AN INSET NIPPLE SHOULDER ABUTTING FLANGE Yervant H. Kurkjian, Clifton, N. 1., assignor to Kurk Products Co., Clifton, N. J., a corporation of New Jersey Application March 28, 1955, Serial No. 497,284
1 Claim. (Cl. 21511) This invention relates to a nursing unit cap, and has for one of its objects the production of a cap wherein the abutment shoulder of a nursing unit nipple is seated upon the abutment flange of the cap in insert relation with respect to the outer portion or end of the cap, so as to avoid the danger of catching the lip of an infant between the abutment shoulder of a nipple and the abutment flange of the cap, when the nursing unit is assembled.
A further object of this invention is the production of a nursing unit cap which is adapted to support a nursing nipple having an abutment shoulder in a manner whereby the abutment shoulder of the nipple will be supported by an inset abutment shoulder of the cap so as to avoid catching the lip of an infant between the abutment shoulders during the process of nursing.
Other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear throughout the following specification and claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view of the nursing unit, certain parts being shown in elevation;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the cap;
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the cap; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view of a modified form of nursing unit, certain parts being shown in elevation.
By referring to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that designates the container having an externally threaded open neck 11. A vented flanged elastic nipple 12, having an abutment shoulder 13, is carried by a removable cap 14. The cap 14 is engageable with the neck 11, as shown in Figure 1.
ice
The cap 14 is provided with an outer end 15 which preferably is rounded to constitute a rolled bead-like structure at its outer extremity to avoid abrupt corners. The outer end 15 is provided with an inset annular abutment flange 17 which is engageable with the upper face of the flange 18 of the nipple 12 and extends under the abutment shoulder 13 of the nipple 12 to support the nipple in an operative position and prevent the nipple 12 from receding into the container 10. It is important to note that the abutment flange 17 is definitely inset relative to the outer end 15 of the cap 14 so that the point of contact of the abutment shoulder 13 of the nipple 12 with the abutment shoulder 17 of the cap 14 is located inwardly of the outer end 15. In this way there will be no danger of an infant catching or sticking his lip between the abutment shoulder of the nipple and the abutment flange 17 as well as the rolled bead-like extremity 15 of the cap 14 while the infant is, nursing.
As shown in Figure 4, the removable cap 14 is provided with a flat top face 15 and an inset flange 17 which is similar to the flange 17, shown in Figure 1. The nipple 12 is secured in place in the same manner as set forth with respect to Figure 1.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
In combination with a container, an elastic nipple having a neck and a flange, the nipple having an abutment shoulder spaced from said nipple flange, a cap having a rounded rolled bead-like outer extremity, said cap having an inset annular abutment flange engageable with the upper face of said nipple flange and extending under said abutment shoulder of said nipple to support the nipple against receding into said container, and the rolled bead-like outer extremity of said cap receding outwardly and away from said nipple thereby defining means to avoid danger of an infant catching his lip between the abutment shoulder of said nipple and the abutment flange of the cap as well as the rolled bead-like outer extremity of the cap.
