United States Patent "ice.
This invention relates primarily to a creped tissue tie which may be used to protect the hair during the application of cosmetics, as well as for a variety of other uses, as is hereinafter set forth in detail.
In the application or removal of cosmetics, it is desirable to protect the hair from contact with the cosmetics, and for this purpose various things have been used, none of which are fully satisfactory. It is also desirable to provide a covering for the hair to hold the curls in place while drying hair, to hold hair in place while sleeping, and for use as a hair covering during sports, cleaning or gardening.
Various articles have been proposed for such uses and it is the object of the present invention to provide a disposable, easily tied, soft and strong strip of material which can be used for such purpose. The article is very inexpensive so that it may be used only once and discarded.
In the drawings illustrating the invention:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the device of the present invention tied over the head of a wearer.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device of the present invention, showing the ends separated at one point to illustrate the construction.
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the lines 3--3 of Fig 'ure 2.
The device of the present invention has been generally designated 1 and consists of a composite paper strip. The composite strip consists of an inner ply 2 and an outer ply 3. The inner ply 2 is designed to be placed next to the hair or skin and consists of a fairly thick web of absorbent paper-like material, which is commonly known as cellucotton, and which is ordinarily used, in
the form of thin sheets, as disposable handkerchiefs. The outer ply 3 consists of paper which is soft, strong and 2,806,224 Patented Sept. 17, 1957 moisture-rcpellant. The two plies are crimped together or creped so that the two plies do not readily separate when the composite strip is stretched. A convenient size for the strip is approximately 3 /2" wide by 30" long. The creping extends across the width of the paper'and serves to retain the two sheets together. Such a length will encircle the head twice at the hairline when stretched, leaving enough room for tying. If desired, the outer ply may be colored or otherwise decorated in any desired manner.
The device of the present invention has many uses, such as for use during the application and removal of cosmetics wherein it protects the hair from contact with creams, lotions, powder, mud packs and the like. The device of the present invention can also be used to hold curls in place while drying the hair. It is ideal for sports use and can be worn while driving open cars and playing active sports. It is extremely suitable for use to hold the hair in place before donning a bathing cap. The strip may be cut in half or shorter lengths, and used as a hair bow, or as a bandeau.
It is believed apparent from the above that I have provided an inexpensive, disposable crepe paper tie which is suitable for use for holding the hair in place and for keeping cosmetics from the hair.
I claim:
A device for application to the head of the wearer to hold hair in place and prevent cosmetics from getting on the hair comprising a composite strip of paper-like material comprising an inner ply of cellucotton and an outer ply of a soft, strong, moisture-repellant paper, said two plies being crimped together, said crimping being crosswise of the length of said plies, whereby the plies are normally held together by said crimping to form a unitary structure, said structure being in the form of an elongated strip having parallel sides.
