1 Claim. c1. 2-50 The present invention deals with a robe and more particularly with a tonsorial robe of the type adapted to cover wearing apparel of a person undergoing scalp treatment including hair cutting.

A tonsorial robe or barbers jacket generally comprises a sheet of fabric, especially cotton fabric, of sufficient size to cover a person's wearing apparel when applied by securing about the neck in a substantially tight fit to prevent the depositing of fine hair clippings, cuttings, etc., between the neck and the collar of such robe. The collar of the robe comprises either a narrow or wide band, strip, or reinforcement and such collar becomes quite uncomfortable to the person when fastened about the neck with a tightness such that the passage or depositing of fine hair clippings or cuttings is prevented from contacting the area between the neck and said collar. The discomfort is due to the fact that the fitting of the collar is dependent upon theparticular size of the collar when fixed fastening means are employed or by the barbers judgment which, in view of the physical variations in neck dimensions, does not at all times provide for optimum fitting.

Although elastic collars for robes, especially tonsorial robes, would appear to solve the problem of fitting with respect to physical variations, such elastic collars, e. g. collars of rubber elasticized fabric tend to constrict the neck portion to which applied. Furthermore, rubberized fabric does not stand up under the rigors of frequent laundering and sterilization to which the robes are necessarily subjected.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a robe which comprises a collar adapted to comfortably fit a persons neck regardless of neck dimensions. It is another object of the present invention to provide a tonsorial robe comprising a collar adapted to ensure optimum fitting and comfort without constriction. It is a further object of the present invention to provide a collar for robes and the like apparel, especially tonsorial robes, which will withstand the rigors of laundering and sterilization without deleteriously affecting the collar. Other objects and advantages will become apparent from the description hereinafter following and drawings forming a part hereof in which:

Referring to Fig, l, the vestment 1 adapted to cover a substantial portion of a person when secured at the neck, is provided with a narrow elastic collar 2, e. g. a split collar, having means for securing the collar about the neck. Such securing-means may constitute a pair of tie members 3 and 4 each secured or attached to the collar ends substantially as illustrated. In order to enable elastic elongation of the collar, fold members such as pleat members 5 are provided in said robe transversally of said collar so that said robe portion adjacent the collar may follow or expand with the elongation of the collar.

Fig. 2 illustrates a modification of such an elastic collar wherein the collar 6 constitutes a band member or strip provided with securing means of the hole and button type or other cooperating fasteners 7 and 8.

Fig. 3 illustrates another modification of the collar wherein the collar constitutes a composition band of nonelastic material 9 and 10 joined together longitudinally thereof with an elastic section 11 transversally of said fold member 5.

In order to attain the objects herein stated, the

2 and 6 and the elastic section 11 consist of a longitudinally elastic band of a woven fabric of substantially high elasticity comprising elastic yarns longitudinally of the woven fabric and non-elastic yarns transversally thereof. The elastic fabric is formed from a plurality of longitudinally elastic yarns 12 and transversally nonelastic yarns 13, as illustrated by Fig. 4 and Fig. 5.

Preferably, the component elastic yarns comprise a plurality of artificial filaments formed by the extrusion of viscous organic substances, in particular of synthetic organic substances such as synthetic polyamides or other polymerization products of filament forming ability, e. g. nylon and the like. In order to provide the requisite non-constricting elasticity herein referred to, the longitudinal filaments or yarns are, after extrusion, crimped, sinuated or otherwise rendered longitudinally elastic by sinuate shrinkage operations or contracting operations and relaxed in the shrunk state thereby providing wavy filament lengths or sinuously shrunken filament lengths. In view of the wavy nature of the relaxed longitudinal continuous filaments, the surface of the fabric is pro vided with a soft fuzzy texture which helps to prevent the depositing of fine hair clippings between the neck and the collar.

Moreover, since synthetic yarns such as nylon are resistant to laundering and sterilization without becoming deleteriously affected, the robe and collar therefor are capable of substantially long wear.

It is, therefore, apparent that the robe of the present invention is provided With an elastic collar, said collar being longitudinally elastic as a result of the longitudinal fabric yarns which in the relaxed state are in a wavy or sinuous condition, thereby providing a high degree of stretch with a low contractile force so that optimum fitting of the collar is provided without constriction regardless of the physical variation in neck sizes of persons to whom the robe is applied.

Although the fabric of the elastic collars according to the present invention are preferably fabrics woven from synthetic yarns, e. g. nylon, it is within the scope of the invention to incorporate yarns of other materials with the synthetic yarns, or to employ elastic yarns of cotton.

What I claim is:

A tonsorial robe comprising a vestment and collar means therefor, said collar means being secured to said vestment said vestment having fold members transversally of said collar means, said collar being an elastic band formed of a woven material having elastic yarns longitudinally of said band and non-elastic yarns transversally thereof, said elastic yarns comprising synthetic filaments,

said filaments being sinuously shrunken filament lengths in a relaxed condition forming a yarn of high elasticity,

and said elastic band having a substantially fuzzy sur- 5 face and low contractile force.
