3 Claims. (Cl. 206-) This invention relates to garment bags. More particularly, the invention deals with a tiltable container mounted in the upper front wall portion of the bag and adapted to contain fumigator crystals or other articles or products. Still more particularly, the invention deals with a container fashioned from plastics to provide a transparent or translucent container rendering the crystals or other an ticles arranged therein visible through the front wall of the garment bag.

The novel features of the invention will be best understood from the following description, when taken together with the accompanying drawing, in which certain embodiments of the invention are disclosed and, in which, the separate parts are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views and, in which:

Fig. l is a diagrammatic perspective view of a garment bag showing one of my improved containers mounted therein and in open position; and

Fig. 2 is an enlarged cross-sectional view through the container and its mounting in the bag and indicating the container in open position in dotted lines.

In illustrating one adaptation and use of my invention, I have shown in Fig. l of the drawing a flexible wall garment bag 10, having a plurality of supporting hooks 11 projecting through the upper wall 12 of the garment bag. At 13 I have diagrammatically indicated suitable closure means for the front wall 14 of the bag. The upper part of the front has a transverse wall portion 15 with a large opening 16 formed therein. The flexible material of the wall 15 around the opening 16 is reinforced by a channel reinforcing strip 17 of strong material.

At 18 I have shown one of my improved containers. The container 18 is in the form of an elongated troughshaped member, preferably formed of moulded plastics and comprising a front wall 19, back wall 20, side walls 21 and a bottom wall 22.

In utilizing the container as a support for fumigating crystals, such as are commonly used in bags of the kind under consideration, it is preferred that the bottom wall 22 has a plurality of perforations, as indicated at 23 in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The bottom wall 22, adjacent the front wall 19, has an inwardly set longitudinal channel 24 for mounting the container on the lower portion 17' of the reinforcing channel or U-shaped strip 17. This is a free mounting so as to provide pivotal movement of the container on the wall 15 and within the opening 16, so as to move from the closed position shown in full lines in Fig. 2 to the open position, indicated in dotted lines in said figure and shown in full lines in Fig. 1.

At the upper end of the front wall 19 is an outwardly and downwardly extending tab or fingerpiece 25 positioned centrally of the wall, as clearly noted in Fig. 1 of the drawing, this tab facilitating outward swinging movement of the container whenever desired for the purpose of re-filling the container with the crystals in question.

It will appear that the structure of the container is such as to check outward swinging movement by engagement of the upper edge 21 of the side walls 21 with the 2,801,737 Patented Aug. 6, 1957 lower edge of the upper portion 17" of the reinforcing strip 17, as is clearly indicated in Fig. 2 of the drawing.

By constructing the container 18 of transparent or translucent plastics, the presence of crystals in the container can be detected at all times through the front wall 19. Accordingly, the user of the garment bag can, at all times, maintain the fumigating or treating crystals in the container for protection of the clothing supported therein.

Having fully described my invention, What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A garment bag comprising a front flexible wall with means in said wall for controlling admission to the bag, said means comprising a large transverse opening in said wall, a strip of semi-rigid material bordering and forming a facing defining the size of said opening, a container movably supported in said opening, said container being normally positioned in the bag and being adapted to be extended to gain access to the interior of the container, the container comprising front, back, bottom and side walls, and the bottom wall of the container having a longitudinal channel extending the full length of said wall and pivotally mounting the container in connection with one edge portion of the strip bordering said opening.

2. The combination with a flexible wall garment bag of the character described, having an elongated opening in one wall thereof and a channelled strip bordering and forming a facing defining the size of said opening, of a one-piece plastic container comprising front, back, bottom and side walls, the bottom wall having an inwardly set channel adjacent and partially formed by the front wall and extending the full length of said bottom and front walls, the lower portion of the channelled strip seating in the channel of said bottom wall in pivotally mounting the container in conjunction with said wall of the garment bag, the front wall of the container fully covering said elongated opening and upper inner edges of the side walls engaging the upper portion of the strip in checking outward swinging movement of said container with respect to said wall of the garment bag.

The combination with a flexible wall garment bag of the character described, having an elongated opening in one wall thereof and a channelled strip bordering and forming a facing defining the size of said opening, of a one-piece plastic container comprising front, back, bottom and side walls, the bottom wall having an inwardly set channel adjacent and partially formed by the front wall and extending the full length of said bottom and front walls, the lower portion of the channelled strip seating in the channel of said bottom wall in povotally mounting the container in conjunction with said wall of the garment bag, the front wall of the container fully covering said elongated opening, upper inner edges of the side walls engaging the upper portion of the strip in checking outward swinging movement of said con tainer with respect to said wall of the garment bag, an integral outwardly extending finger-piece at the upper edge of the front wall, and said bottom wall having openings therein.
