United States Patent GARBAGE PAIL BOTTOM LINING Harry W. Ketchledge, Haddonfield, N. J.
Application February 17, 1955, Serial No. 488,767
1 Claim. (Cl. 220-63) The present invention relates to garbage pails particularly for domestic use and has for its primary object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, novel means for protecting the pail bottom against contact with, and consequent damage from the refuse deposited in the receptacle, thereby greatly prolonging the life of said receptacle.
Another very important object of the invention is to provide a protective bottom lining of the character described which will thoroughly deodorize the receptacle.
Still another important object of the invention is to provide a protective and deodorizing lining of the aforementioned character which is adapted to be expeditiously and firmly secured in position in the bottom of the garbage pail or receptacle.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a garbage pail bottom lining of the character set forth which will be comparatively simple in construction, compact, durable and which may be manufactured at a low cost.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through a garbage pail provided with a bottom lining constructed in accordance with the present invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the lining; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view in vertical section, taken substantially on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, it will be seen that reference character 5 designates generally a conventional garbage pail or receptacle which, of course, may be of any suitable capacity. The pail 5 includes the usual circular, tapered wall 6, a bottom 7 and a handle Patented July 9, 1957 "ice 8 connected to bail ears 9. A suitable cover 10 is provided for the pail 5.
The embodiment of the present invention which has been illustrated comprises an asphalt disc 11 which is adapted to fit snugly in the lower portion of the pail 5 and rest on the bottom 7 thereof. The asphalt disc 11, which may be of any desired thickness, is impregnated with a suitable deodorant.
As illustrated to advantage in Figure 3 of the drawing, the lower surface of the disc 11 is provided with an adhesive coating 12 for firmly securing said disc in position on the bottom 7 of the garbage pail. A removable protective sheet or skin 13 of suitable material is provided for the adhesive 12.
It is thought that the use of the lining will be readily apparent from a consideration of the foregoing. Briefly, the protective sheet or skin 13 is removed to expose the adhesive 12. The impregnated asphalt disc 11 is then inserted in the pail 5 and pressed downwardly on the bottom 7 thereof where said disc is firmly secured by the adhesive 12. Of course, if the garbage pail is not new the bottom 7 thereof is first thoroughly cleaned. It will thus be seen that a simple but novel bottom lining has been provided which, in addition to deodorizing the pail, fully protects the bottom thereof from the refuse. The disc 11 may be of any diameter to snugly fit in garbage pails of various sizes.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
In combination, a garbage pail including a bottom and a circular wall, a protector comprising an asphalt disc resting on the bottom of the pail and peripherally engaged with the wall thereof, and an adhesive coating on the lower side of the disc securing same to the bottom, said disc having incorporated therein an agent for deodorizing the space within the confines of the pail.
