Patented Dee. i2, 1933 iaiaszi PATENT orrics a WITH DIAL GAL PROCESS OF L'INING TUBES A BITUMINOUS OR LIKE MATE- Georg Reiohenbecher and Ernst Grubs, Mulheim- Rnhr, Germany, assignors to Verelnigte Stablwerke Aktiengesellschatt, Dusseldorf, Germany Application January 13, 1932, Serial No. seasso, and in Germany Ianuary 13, 1931 Several processes are already known, whereby metal tubes can be lined by means of the centrifugal process with a coating of bitumen or the like or with a mixture consisting of bitumen or 5 the like. The most widely known process consists in bringing the tube to a temperature of about 150 C. and in projecting the liquid mass into the tube by suitable rotative movement.
Another process consists in painting the inner 19 wall of the tube with some suitable material in which bitumen is dissolved in volatile subugal process the tubes with the desired mass.
The first of these processes has the disadvantage that the mass does not adhere sufliciently strongly to the wall; the second process has the disadvantage that some light, volatile constituents are left behind in the painted coating, which later on volatilize through the action oi the rays of the sun and detach the centrifuged mass from the tube wall, by forming cracks,
The present invention has the object oi eliminating the above disadvantages by bringing-the tube to a temperature which is higher-401' example, by 80 to 40--than the working or using temperature of the bitumen to be cast. After the heating of the tube the heated casting ma-' state, will key well, and gradually form a coating or the desired thickness. 1 In the attached drawing is shown in longitudinal section .a tube of the character described.
Reference numeral denotes a metal tube, 11
the inside coating oi the tube, preferably applied with a brush, and 12 the bituminous inner layer or lining applied warm and by centrifugal force.
. What we claim and desire to secure by Letters 65 Patent in the United States is: stances, and in subsequently lining by the centrii- 1. The centriifugal process of lining tubes with a bituminous or like rust-preventing material, consisting in heating the tube to be coated from c. to c. above the working temperature 7 of the rust-preventing mass to be cast, then painting the tube with a thin layer of the same rustpreventing mass, then cooling the tube, and then inserting into the tube a sufficient quantity or highly warmed 11mm; material to form a coating of-the-required thickness, then rotating the tube to deposit such coating centriiugally.
2. JI'he centrifugal process oiiining tubes with a bituminous or like rust-preventing material, consisting in heating the tube to be coated from 30 C. to 40 C. above the working temperature of the rust-preventing mass to be cast, then painting the tube with a thin layer of the same rust-preventing mass, then cooling the tube, and
of the required thickness has been deposited centrifugally.
