GILBERT R. ELLIOTT, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF TO MILTON CLARK, OF SAME PLACE.
PARCEL-HOLDER FOR ELEVATED WAYS IN STORES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,727, dated June 19, 1883.
ApplicationfiledMaylB,1883. (NomodeL) of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Parcel-Holder for Elevated Ways in Stores, of which the following is a specifica tion.
The object of my invention is to provide a device for securely holding parcels, particularly parcels to be transported on the elevated ways now largely used in stores, which device can be readily taken from or attached'to a carrier adapted to travel in such elevated way, and into and from which device the parcels can be quickly inserted and removed.
My invention consists in the combination of a spring-controlled roller witha web to form a receptacle for the parcels, as hereinafter fully described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an end elevation of a single-roller holder with a parcel inserted. Fig. 2 is a similar view of a double-roller holder, and Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the holder ready to receive a parcel.
In Figs. 1 and3, A is a roller mounted in a frame, B, and carrying within it a spring, (not shown,) by means of which it may be revolved in the manner of various well-known curtainfixtures. A notched disk, a, is secured to one end of the roller A, and a spring-controlled catch, a, is pivoted to the upper bar, b, of the frame at a so as to engage with a notch or tooth of the disk on, when left free, to prevent the roller from meshing. A web, 0, of suitable material, or a sheet of leather or the like, is folded at its middle, and secured at both ends to the roller A; or one end may be se- J cured and the other be adaptedto be hooked In Fig. 2 the web 0 is attached at one end to a spring-controlled roller, A, and at its other end to a roller, A, provided with a toothed disk or wheel, a which meshes with a similar disk, a, on the roller A, whereby the spring in the roller A causes both rollers to revolve and roll up the web O. The rod 0 is in this arrangement fixed in the lower part of the frame B. A catch, a, is provided, as in the single-roller holder, and the operation of the device will be readily understood from the drawings and the foregoing description. My improved holder is suspended by the upper bar, I), of the frame B on hooks attached to any suitable carrier adapted to travel on elevated ways in stores.
I claim as my inventionr The holder hereinbefore described, consisting of a spring-controlled roller mounted in a frame, substantially as described, in combination with a web or sheet adapted to be wound up by the roller, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
