Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALEXANDER J. FISH, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DEVICE FOR ORNAMENTING CAKE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 279,555, dated June 19, 1883.
- Applicationfilcd October 14, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER J. FISH, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented Improvements in Devices for Ornamenting Cake, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
My invention relates to devices for ornamenting cakes with icing and it consists of a flexible bag or receptacle for containing the icing, having a conical metal point. provided with a detachable auxiliary point formed to give the desired configuration to the design, aswill be hereinafter more fully described.
I11 order to enable others skilled in the art to which -my invention relates to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my device. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the parts detached. Fig. 3 is a view of the removable point; Fig. 4 is a central vertical section of the lower end of the bag and the two points; and Fig. 5 is a similar view, showing a modification of the screw-fastening device.
A represents a cone shaped metal point formed with two peripheral rings or flanges, a a, near its upper end; and B is a bag or receptacle, of rubber or other suitable flexible material, the lower end of which is passed overthe upper end of the point A, and held in place by a rubber ring, Bf, between the flanges a a.
Just below the lower flange a the point Ais provided with a screw-threaded stud, a, on
" which is a thumb-nut, Z). i
Over the point A, I place an auxiliary point or pen, 0, having a vertical slot, 0, in its up per end, which slips over the stud a when the pen 0 is in position, and the thumb-nut is turned to secure it firmly in place. The lower end of this auxiliary point or pen is notched or formed in any desired shape to give any form to the liquid icing, as it flows out, that may be dictated by fancy, and the device may be, if desired, supplied with a number or these points of different sizes and shapes, which can be used at will.
The icing in a semi-liquid form being placed in the bag B is held in one hand and pressed out gradually while the other hand guides the pen over the top of the cake to form the required design.
In Fig. 5 I have shown a modification of the device for securing the pen and point together, consisting of securing a small nut to the inner side of the point A and screwing a thumb-screw into it through the slot in the pen. By this means the screw or stud may be entirely removed, making it more convenient for cleaning.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
I. In a device for icing cake and similar articles, the combination of a flexible bag or receptacle with a rigid feeding or drawing point, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a device for ornamenting cake or similar articles, the combination of a flexible bag or receptacle with a rigid feeding-point having a detachable pen or tube of any required size and form to suit a desired design, substantially as described and shown.
3'. In a device for ornamenting cake or other similar articles, the combination, with a conical feeding point or tube, of a detachable conical forming pen or tube, substantially as shown and described.
4. I11 a device for ornamenting cake or other similar articles, the combination of a flexible bag or receptacle, B, secured to the tubes or point by a rubber ring, B, with a conical metal point, A, formed with flanges .a a, and the removable forming-pen 0, having a slot, 0, and a set-screw or nut for securing it in place, substantially as described and shown.
5. In a device for ornamenting cake or other similar articles, a removable forming tube or pen provided with a slot in its upper end, substantially as shown and described.
6. In a device for ornamenting cake or other similar articles, the rigid point or tube A, provided with a screw-threaded stud,'in com bination with the removable forming pen or tube 0, provided with a slot, 0, as and for the purpose set forth.
7. In a device for ornamenting cake or other similar articles, a flexible bag or receptacle for holding the material for ornamenting, and secured to a rigid forming tube or point by a rubber ring, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
. ALEXANDER J. FISH.
