Description

May 21, 1957 v. ROCCHETTI TOOL CASE wrru PIVOTED END MEMBERS Filed Dec. 27, 1954 VITfUk/U Ram/Hr) INVENTOR.
AGENT nite States Patent TOOL CASE WITH PIVOTED END MEMBERS Vittorio Rocehetti, Rovereto, Italy Application December 27, 1954, Serial No. 477,874
Claims priority, application Italy May 18, 1954 2 Claims. (Cl. 206-17) The present invention relates to a tool case which is able to contain one or more rod-like tools, more particularly auger bits, said case having at least one inclinable or overturning side wall with seats for the tools, in order to permit the tools to be rapidly and easily removed or replaced in the case.
Heretofore, tool cases of wood or the like have been used wherein the tools were disposed in seat, progressively increasing in length and or thickness arrangement. With such devices there may be experienced some troublesome difficulties when removing the desired tool from its seat, since this seat is normally formed of a slot, machined in the bottom of the case, which does not readily enable the removal of a desired tool from the case.
Indeed, when desiring to make attempts to grasp the tool, the latter is generally seized at the part which is sharpened, which may cause injuries; in other instances, it may be necessary completely to overturn the case, so that all tools will drop out even when only one of them has to be extracted.
It is an object of the present invention to obviate these drawbacks, by devising a case which enables the tools to be easily removed and replaced, eliminating any risk for the user.
Another object of the invention is to provide a case which is adapted to carry a complete series of tools in the most favorable arrangement for individually and rapidly removing any desired tool.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of seats for the tools which will insure the correct replacing in its seat of each single tool after use.
These and other objects are realized by a case according to the invention, which is characterized in that at least one end member of the case, which is formed of a prismatical body and is provided with a series of blind holes forming the seats of the respective tools, is pivoted to the fixed frame of the case so that it may be swung around together with the tools housed in said seats.
The invention will be now more particularly described with reference to the accompanying drawing, which is for illustrative purposes only and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows a case according to the invention in perspective view, with one end member partially turned up wardly; and
Fig. 2 shows a longitudinal section of the case of Fig. 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the case has a bottom 1, to which two side walls 2, 2' are secured. At the ends of these side walls, and between the latter, there are pivoted at 3, 3 the end members 4, 4',
"ice
which are formed of prismatical bodies, in which there are bored a series of blind holes 5 serving as seats for the tools 6 which aregenerally represented by auger bits or drills. A cover 7, which is hinged to the side Wall 2' and is preferably formed of transparent material, closes a space 9 which is defined by the side walls 2, 2 and the end members 4, 4, the transverse edges of the cover abutting against the steps 8,8 forming recesses in the prismatical members 4, 4.
If two pivoted end members as well as tools of progressively varying length are provided, the space 9 is separated by an inclined dividing wall 10 into two compartments wherein the tools are housed so as to have their tips respectively arranged in mutually opposite directions, being received in the seats 5 of one or of the other end members 4 or 4' respectively.
When one of the tools is to be removed, the cover 7 is lifted and then the respective end member 4 or 4' is swung upwardly so that it assumes the position of the member 4 in Fig. 1; at this point the desired tool can be easily removed. In its closing position the cover, which is conveniently secured to the side wall 2, co-operates with the steps 8, 8' to prevent any undesired rotation of the end members 4, 4'.
What is claimed is:
1. A tool case comprising a bottom, a pair of opposite side walls rising from said bottom, a pair of end members bridging opposite extremities of said side walls, and a cover hingedly connected with one of said side Walls; at least one of said end members being pivoted onto said side walls and swingable between a normal position and an upturned position, a face of said one end member normally direct toward the other end member being provided with a series of blind tool-receiving holes and being further provided with a recess along the upper edge of said face adapted to receive an edge of Said cover in the normal position of said one end member.
2. A tool case comprising a bottom, a pair of opposite side walls rising from said bottom, a pair of end members pivotally secured to both of said side walls at opposite extremities of the latter, thereby defining a space between said side walls, each of said end members being swingable between a normal position and an upturned position, each of said end members being provided with a series of blind tool-receiving holes on a face normally directed toward said space and being further provided with a recess along the upper edge of said face, a cover hingedly connected with one of said side walls, said cover being substantially shorter than said bottom in the direction of said side walls and having edges receivable in said recesses of said end members in the normal positions of the latter, said cover when thus received being substantially flush with the upper surfaces of said end members adjacent said recesses, and an oblique partition subdividing said space.
