VOLFF HAGELBERG, OF BERLIN, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR TO KAUFMANN &
STRAUSS, or New YORK, N. Y.
CARD-SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 278,941, dated June 5, 1883.
Application filed March 10, 1883.
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WoLFF HAGELBERG, of the city of Berlin, Prussia, Germany, have in vented a new and Improved Oard-H0lder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved device for holding'cards, bills of fare, 850., which device can be folded very compactly when not in use.
The invention consists in a disk or shield to the back of which a leg or brace is jointed in such a manner that partof the leg will be above the joint, between which part of the leg and the disk the card is placed and is held by the pressure of the said part of the brace or leg against it.
The invention also consists in a jointed brace and other parts and combinations of the same, as will be fully set forth hereinafter.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a front view of my improved card-holder, showing the manner in which the card is held. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing it erected and holding a card. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same, showing it folded. Fig. 4 is asectional plan view of the same on the line a 00, Fig.
To the upper part of the rear surface of disk or shield, A, aleg or brace, B, is jointed by means of a hinge or'flexible strip, 0, which is attached to the rear surface of the shield and to the brace or leg B a short distance below the upper part of the same, so that a part, a, of the leg or brace Bwill be above the hinge or flexible strip or joint-strip C.
A Strip, D, provided with a central joint, or otherwise adapt-ed to be bent at or near the middle, is jointed to the lower end of the leg or brace B and to the lower part of the rear surface of the shield. Part of the Strip D is punched out to form an upwardly-bent tongue, F, the upper end of which is passed into a pocket, G, formed on the back of the shield, and extending in the direction from the top and bottom of the same. The shield or disk is to be ornamented in any desired style or manner on its front surface.
(No model.)
The holder can be made of metal, stiff paper, pasteboard, &c. The shield A can be made circular, or can have any other suitable shape, as may be desired.
If the holder is made ofpasteboard, &c. the joints can be formed of linen strips secured in. the adjoining ends or edges of the parts.
W'hen the holder is not in use it is folded, the brace D being doubled up, the leg B resting against the back of the shield, and the tongue F being contained in the pocket G.
If; a card, H, is to be held, it is passed in between the part a of the leg and the back of the disk or shield, and the lower end of the leg is drawn from the back of the disk until the brace D is extended, as shown in Fig. 2, the tongue F'being withdrawn partly from the pocket G. The card H is clamped between the back of the shield and the part c of the leg B, and held in place. The brace D prevents the leg B from folding against the back of the shield, and the friction of the tongue F against v the back of the shield prevents the brace D from collapsing. The pocket G holds the tongue F against the back of the shield. If the card H is very thick, or if the shield is to stand very steep, the brace D is not extended entirely. It will always be prevented from collapsing by the tongue F.
The above-described device can befolded very compactly when not in use or when packed for sale. It can be erected very rapidly, and can be used for holding cards, bills of fare, motto'es, small pictures, 8m.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-' p 1. The conibinati on, with the shield or disk A, of the legor brace B and the joint-piece 0, attached to the back of the shield and to the leg or brace B, in such a manner that the part a. of the leg will be above the joint-piece G, sub stantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
The combination, with the shield or disk A, of the leg or brace B, the joint-piece G, and the jointed brace D, jointed to the lower end of the rear of the disk or shield and to the lower end of the leg or brace B, substantially as herein shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, with the shield or disk the bottom of the disk or shield and to the A, of the leg or brace B, the joint-piece C, bottom of the leg or brace 15, and provided and the jointed brace D, provided with a with a tongue, F, projecting into the pocket tongue, F, resting against the back of the disk G, substantially as herein shown and described, 5 or shield A, substantially as herein shown and and for the purpose set forth.
described and for the )urpose set forth. 7 a. Th6 CO111bi11ttiO11, \Vifll the shield or disk OLFF HAGELBERG" A, of the leg or brace B, the joint-piece C, the Vitnesses: pocket G, formedon the back of the disk or B. ROI,
