United States Patent Ofiee 2,788,130 Patented Apr. 9, 1957 REVOLVING HOLDER FOR TOOTH PASTE AND TOOTH BRUSHES John Claude White, Newtown, Pa.
Application July 29, 1955, Serial No. 525,170
1 Claim. (Cl. 211-65) The present invention, a revolving holder for a plurality of tooth brushes and for a container of tooth paste, includes an upwardly projecting bracket attachable to a vertical wall surface, in the upper end of which is removably swiveled an upwardly opening, cylindrical cup having an outwardly projecting flange or collar formed with a circumferential series of apertures adapted to receive a plurality of tooth brushes, the device including a lift means removably supported within the cup and so proportioned as to facilitate the lifting of the tooth paste container from a position in which it is supported within the cup.
Among important objects of the invention are the following: to provide an attractive, compact device readily attachable to a vertical wall surface and representing a relatively small lateral projection from said surface;
To provide a supporting bracket capable of being formed from a single length of tubular material in such a manner as to adapt the bracket at one end for connection to the wall surface and at its other end as a vertically disposed bearing for a depending spindle of the cup;
To permit the swift rotatable adjustment of the cup to provide access to any of the supported brushes;
To facilitate the removal of the tooth paste container; and
To adapt the device to hold any of various sizes or shapes of containers, including not only containers of the collapsible tube type, but also cans of tooth powder, etc.
Other objects will appear from the following description, the claim appended thereto, and from the annexed drawing, in which like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views, and wherein:
Figure 1 is a top plan view; and
Figure 2 is a vertical section on line 22 of Figure 1.
A stationary support bracket is formed from a single length of tubular material having an inclined intermediate portion merging at its lower end into a flattened attaching flange 12 lying in a vertical plane and having vertically spaced openings receiving screws 14 or equivalent fastening elements adapted to be engaged in the surface of a wall W.
At its upper end, intermediate portion 10 merges into a relatively short, vertically disposed, upwardly opening bearing sleeve 16 on which is rotatably supported an upwardly opening, elongated, cylindrical cup 18 having a flat bottom 20. Bottom 20 is in contact with the open upper extremity of the bearing sleeve 16, and fixed to and'depending from the center of cup bottom 20 is a spindle 22 substantially smaller in diameter than the inner diameter of the bearing sleeve 16 and extending for substantially the full length of the bearing sleeve within the same. Integral or otherwise made rigid with spindle 22 at locations spaced axially thereof are collars 24 engaging the inner surface of the bearing sleeve 16 to stabilize the spindle during rotation of the same.
Fixedly secured to the side wall of cup 18, intermediate the upper and lower ends of the cup, is a planiform, annular collar 26 extending through the full circumference of the cup and formed, at uniformly spaced locations about its circumference, with arcuate, slot-like openings 28 adapted to receive the handles of tooth brushes B with the brush heads supported upon the upper surface of the flange or collar.
A lift rod 30 extends the full length of the cup within the same, in engagement with the side wall of the cup, and at its upper end has an outwardly directed, short handle 32, while having at its lower end a flat, circular container support member 34 projecting laterally from the length of rod 30 in a direction opposite that in which the handle 32 extends. Support member 34 is of a diameter slightly less than the inner diameter of the cup, and is adapted to provide a support for a container C. Illustrated is a collapsible tube, but cans of tooth powder or other types of containers can be supported with equal efficiency.
Ordinarily, as the contents of a collapsible tube are used, the tube is rolled up, becoming increasingly shorter in length. This would make diflicult the extraction of the same from the cup, but the lift means 30, 32, 34 facilitate the extraction of the container from the cup, merely by an upward lift exerted upon the handle 32.
In use, the cup is rotated to any position desired to permit insertion or removal of a brush B, and in any position to which the cup is rotated, handle 32 is disposed to be readily grasped and lifted for the purpose of removing the container C.
It is believed apparent that the invention is not necessarily confined to the specific use or uses thereof described above, since it may be utilized for any purpose to which it may be suited. Nor is the invention to be necessarily limited to the specific construction illustrated and described, since such construction is only intended to be illustrative ofthe principles of operation and the means presently devised to carry out said principles, it being considered that the invention comprehends any minor change in construction that may be permitted within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A revolving holder for a tooth paste container and for tooth brushes, comprising: a bracket comprising an elongated member having an intermediate portion inclined from the horizontal, an attaching flange at the lower end of the intermediate portion disposed in a vertical plane and formed with vertically spaced openings adapted to receive fastening elements for extension of said fastening elements into the surface of a supporting wall, said bracket including an upwardly opening upper end portion rigid with the upper end of the inclined intermediate portion; a cup having a side wall of substantial height and a closed bottom, for receiving a tooth paste container; spindle means depending centrally from the bottom of the cup and rotatably engaged upon the upper end portion of the bracket; a planiform, annular collar rigid with and extending about the full circumference of the cup at a location spaced a substantial distance above the bottom of the cup, said collar being formed with uniformly, angularly spaced openings adapted to receive the handles of tooth brushes, the collar being disposed in a plane a substantial distance above the inclined intermediate portion of the bracket, whereby the handles of the tooth brushes may extend downwardly below the bottom of the collar and below the upper end portion of the bracket, for travel of the lower extremities of the brushes in a circular path extending about the inclined intermediate portion of the bracket; and a lift rod of a length corresponding to the height of the side wall removably positioned within the cup in engagement with said side wall, said lift rod being formed at its upper end with an outwardly directed, short handle terminating inwardly from the outer peripher'y' of said flange so as none interfere with tooth brushes' Refereuces Cited in the file of this patent UNITED STATES PATENTS 1,206,321 Hammesfahr Nov. 28, 1916 1,228,261 Taylor May 29, 1917 1,252,207 Walker Jan. 1, 1918 1,342,243
