(Cl. 205-56) The present invention relates to a self-feeding cosmetic container, and it particularly relates to a self-feeding cosmetic container to be used for holding perfumes.

i It is among the objects of the present invention to provide an inexpensive, readily manufactured, self-feeding, solid perfume container.

Another object is to provide a novel self-feeding, solid perfume container which may be readily molded out of resin or other plastic and which will be made of few ,parts and which will be reliable in operation, without sticking, jamming and with assurance that the user or consumer will be able to readily operate the same and find the solid perfume always readily dispensable for consumption.

Still further objects and advantages will appear in the more detailed description set forth below, it being understood, however, that this more detailed description is given by way of illustration and explanation only and not by Way of limitation, since various changes therein may be made by those skilled in the art without departing from the scope and spirit of the present invention.

In accomplishing the above objects, it has been found most suitable according to one embodiment of the present invention to prepare the casing of an external tubular member which may be molded of a plastic, such as a urea formaldehyde resin, which will have threaded connections to a removable top cap and a removable iiller base.

Within this shell or container is desirably provided a thin sleeve or liner, as for example of a vinyl or other resin or even of metal, which may be held in position by the'screw connection between the body sleeve and the screwbase, and which at the same time will be provided at its upper end with an extension or a loop or bracket permitting access to the stick cosmetic while at the same time preventing ejection of the stick cosmetic.

Although the cosmetic may be provided with a screw feed, it is mostdesirably provided with spring-pressed plunger for pressing the stick cosmetic upwardly as it is consumed. The spring and plunger are desirably of such a construction as to maintain the stick cosmetic pressed against theY extension strap or loop at the top of the liner without exerting sucient pressure to cause deformation or rupture of the plastic material.

. Where the sleeve or liner is of a flexible or plastic material such as a vinyl resin, such sleeve or container may be used as a gasket to protect the outer container from being atfected by the contents of the cosmetic material.

.In such case .the outer container may be made of metal or plastic and protected from attack by the cosmetic material by the intervening sleeve orr elastomeric material which is resistant to and inert in respect Yto the contents.

Although it is desired Yto mold the inner and outer casingsl or sleeves of a transparent plastic, it is' also possible to'V useY colored effects on the inside sleeve or even advertising or printed material which may be read or will be visible through the outer sleeve.

Although the inner and outer sleeves or containers are both cylindrical, they may also have a square, elliptical, octagonaL hexagonal or other polygonal cross section.

Where the cosmetic is compressible and the pusher plate will force it upwardly against the converging Walls with a change in cross sectional area the walls of both the inner and outer sleeves may also be caused to taper and converge slightly toward the consumption end` of the containers.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modications can he resorted to which f all Withinthe scope ot' the-claims hereunto appended. l i y In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views:

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary top perspective view showing an alternative form of the invention in which the strap or top holder extension for the cosmetic stick extends only part way across the cosmetic stick and leaves the major portion of the Atop of the stickl exposed for application purposes.

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary view partly in section of an alternative top strap or holder construction in which the top strap is of V cross section so more readily Yto permit the plastic solid cosmetic Lstick to be pressed upwardly and more readily used.

Referring to Figs. l to 4, there is shown a plastic container having a central, tubular body A, a screw cap B, a removable base C, a plastic tubular liner D and a presser or feeder member E.

The members A, B, C and D may be made of metal or plastic but inthe preferred construction it Vhas been found that the body A, the screw cap B and the screw bottom C are desirably molded of urea formaldehyde or melamine formaldehyde resin, while the liner B is made of a relatively exible thin sheet of vinyl resin polyethylene or cellulose acetate plastic.

As indicated, the body A is relatively thick at 10 but is reducedin thickness 'at its upper end 1l and at its Yremoval of the cap B.

. Below the scallopsfare internally threaded at 20 to engage Vthe vthreads 20 of Vthe body A.` The top of the cap B is flat, as indicated at 21, and the interior-'side walls 22 are substantially cylindrical to continue the cylindrical interior 23 of the sleeve A.

The removable threadedA base velementC also takes the form Yof a cap, which is much more shallow than the cap B.

The base cup C has a tiatl bottom 39 with an interiorly threaded ange portion 3l and with a circular ridge 32 extending upwardly and inwardly from the base 30.

The liner D consists of a cylinder 33 with an entstand;

Y 3 ing flange 34 kat its lower end. This flange will be positioned in the channel 35 between the ridge 32 and the socket 29 of the screw base C and it will be clamped against the bottom of the channel 35 by the lower end 36 of the body A. r

The liner D is also provided with a square cross-section ridge 3S which projectsroutwardly'from the cylinder Y 33 of the liner D and is clamped between the shoulder 36 of the cap B, and the upper end 37'of the body A. Y

The liner D at its upper end is provided with the loop or bracket 39, which will stop the upper movementV of access thereto at the sides, as'indicated at 40.

In addition, as the cosmetic stick is being used, it will be turned so that the top 41 of the loop 39 will not prevent consumptionor usage of any part of the upper end Aof the cosmetic stick.

When the cosmetic stick is inserted into the interior of the shell or container A,'the screw cup C may be replaced, pressing the spring 50 so that it will force the stick upwardly in the direction indicated by the arrow 54.

` At the same time the construction is such to permit the Y cosmetic stick to be rotated with substantial side pressure as it islbeing used.Y

To use the cosmetic stick, the cap'B .may be unscrewed` and the top and sides of the cosmetic stick will be avail- Yable for pressure against the lipsincaseof a lipstick or against the eyes in case of an eyebrow pencil or against various parts of the body in *case of a plastic cosmetic perfume stick. Y

Referring to Fig. S, the alternative strap construction Y 80 has a transverse portion 81y which only Yextends part way across .the top of the cosmetic stick and may termi- V 'Y nate in a prong82 projecting downwardly inV the central i portion of the cosmetic stick M. The portion 81 may be molded integrally with the liner or it maybe a separate Vmetal insert.

In this type of holder, most of the peripheralarea of the top of the cosmetic stick is available for contact with the skin or lips of the consumer of the cosmetic stick or Y container. f Y t In the embodiment of Fig. 6 is Yshown another 'alternative' construction Yin which the 'transverse portion of the strap 90 is of V-shape or blade shape cross sectionextending downwardly. This will permit the solid cosmetic stick to press up past the strap V90 as the cosmetic stick is consumed under the pressure of the follower-platerE.

If desired, the lliner D and the. shell A may converge or be conical upwardly, particularly where the cosmeticl stick is sutliciently plastic V'that its move upwardly under the action of the pressure'plate E will be balanced by the compression of the stick. ln such case, the plasticlty of the cosmetic must be regulated so that it is adjusted tothe particular temperature and climate and so that it will not change because of drying out; I

Y Y Y The dimensions may be widely varied but it has been found satisfactory in one embodiment of the. invention to make the stick of 1%2 inch diameter. The liner D may then have an interior diameter of 3A inch and a thickness of about .l2 inch.V

VThe entire shell or casing may have a height of 22552 y inches with the cap having a height of about 5%4inch and the screw base having a height of A inch.

The shell or body A may have a length of 1.929 inches.

It is apparent that the applicant has provided a simple, readily manufactured, durable inexpensive self-feeding cosmetic container.
