To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, LEMUEL TAYLOR and MINER TAYLoIgof Jordan, in the county of lowing is a full, clear,and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in which-- Figure l is a perspective view of our improved wire fence. Fig. 2 is a detail view of one of the fence-posts, and Fig.3 is a-siniilar view of one of the anchoringstakes.

Similar letters of reference indicate correspouding parts in all thefigures.

Our invention has relation to portable wire fences; and it consists in the improved coustruetion and combination of parts of the same, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed In the accompanying drawings, the letter A indicates the post,which consists of. a wooden core, B, covered by a piece of sheet metal, 0, which is folded around the wooden stake,

and the overlapping edges D of which are other suitable object, and are braced and held in upright position partially by the wires in the fence and partially by means of bracewires G, which are fastened to the top of the 'posts and carried around a stake,H, having notches I in the sides..and a staple, J, upon oneside,thr0ugh which the wire passes, and

whichis driven entirely into the ground below i the surface, having abeveled lower end, M.

From, this stake the wire passes to the post,

where i't is fastened to it near the ground, over another stake H,and back to the top of the post, where it is securely fastened. These braceswir'e's are extended to the stakes at an M angle of about forty-five degrees to the panels v of the fence, so as toexert as well alongitudinal as al'ateral strain upon the fence. The

corner-posts are provided with two rows or series of staples on the outer side, and thewires which pass between the posts serve at the same time as brace-wires in the following manner: Thetop wires, K, coming from both sides,

pass through their respective fastening-staples, whereupon they pass down to the ground, around their anchoring-stakes H, and up to thesecond set of fastening-staples, through which they pass and are carried along the other side of the fence, forming the secondset of wires in the fence. The third set of wires pass to the ground in the same manner, and, after returning, form the fourth row, and so forth, the wires coming fromone side of the fence passing along the other side of the fence, through the staples below, after passing around the anchoring-stakes.

To protect the top of the posts a pointed cap, L, may be fastened over it, which'sheds the rain and preserves the top of the wooden core from rotting.

i It will be seen from the foregoing descrip tion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, that by this construction a light and durable fence is provided, which may easily be removed by taking the stakes H up off the ground and rolling the wires and posts up, and which may be as easily put up again.

By placing the posts upon the top of flat stones or other supports their bottom ends will not rot as easily as when they are placed in the ground or in mortised blocks, while the brace-wires and anchoring-stakes will hold them firmly in position.

Having thus described our invention, we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- 1. In a wire fence, the combination of the corner-posts A, placed upon flat supports F,

and having two rows of staples, E, the inclined anchoring-stakes H, and the fence-wires passinggthrough the staples upon the posts, down to the ground, around the anchoring-stakes,
