UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NELSON WOODRUFB OF GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN.
BURIAL-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,969, dated May 22, 1883.
Application filed April 4, was. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NELsoN WOODRUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grand Rapids, in the county of Kent and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Burial-Gases; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of burial cases in which the parts are all separable; and it consists of constructions and combinations, all as will hereinafter be described.
Referring to the drawing, which represents a section in perspective of a part of my burialcase, A represents the sides; B, the bottom; (J, the end, and D the corner-piece. I
The side A is formed with a tongue, at, and a longitudinal strip, a, which may be integral with or attached to the side nearthe lower edge, so that the under side may rest upon the bottom B and be screwed or clamped thereto. Attached to the end is a vertical angle-iron, A, having hooks a, which form recesses a for a purpose hereinafter to be described.
The bottom B is provided with a braceblock, b, which is rounded to fit into the corner, and is attached to the end 0 by means of a hook, b, and eye 0.
which the tongue 01 on the corner piece D rests.
The corner-piece D is provided, in. addition to tongue d, with a groove, (1, and headed pins or screws W. The groove cl embraces the tongue a on the side A. The pins or screws 01 are arranged at suitable points opposite the angle iron, so that the books a will catch upon and draw the parts together as the pins or screws near the bottom of the recesses a The construction of all the parts ofthe burial-case is substantially like that shown in the drawing.
What I claim as new is- In a burial-case, the combination of a side having hooked angle-iron at one end and a longitudinal strip or ledge near its lower edge, a bottom attached to said longitudinal strip and having a brace-block for the end and corner pieces, said end piece attached to the bottom by a hook' and eye, and said corner-piece ton gued and grooved to the side and end piece, and having pins or screws for the books on the angle-iron, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NELSON WOODRUFF.
