NUT-LOCK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 277,769, dated May 15, 1883.

Application filed November 2t, 1882.

T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GIOSEPPE IOSIF PEPos MLINARIGH, of Del ltio, in the county of Kinney and State of Texas, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Nut-Locks, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, forming part of this specification.

This invention belongs to the class of nutlocks in which the bolt is provided with a longitudinal groove, and the not with a key which is adapted to slide in the groove and to be connected with the nut, when the latter is screwed home, to prevent it from unscrewing; and the invention consists of the novel construction vhereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a nut and bolt, showing my improvement. Fig. 2 is an end view of the nut and bolt, and Fig. 3 is a modification of the nut.

A indicates the bolt, having a longitudinal groove, a, formed therein in the usual manner. In this groove is placed a key, 13, the inner end, I), of which is bent outward at right angles to the main part, and is accommodated in a circular recess, 1), in the inner face of the nut O. This arrangement of the key also is common; but to the outer end of the key is secured an arm,D, at right angles thereto, and this arm is provided with ears E, between which is pivoted the catch F, the end of which is adapted to be shut down into one of a series of perforations, G, in the outer face of the nut.

The catch may be pivoted or connected to the key in any other manner, if desired, and it may also be provided with a spring to hold it in engagement with the nut. Besides perfora tions in the nut, other means may also be provided for connecting the catch thereto, such as recesses G, formed in the periphery of the nut, as shown in Fig. 3.

H indicates a cap, which is to be used as an ornamental covering for the nut-lock.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-

1. The combination, with the bolt having a longitudinal groove therein, and the nut having a circular recessin its inner face and a series of perforations in its outer face,ot' the key having its inner end bent at right angles and titted in said recess, and provided with an arm and pivoted catch at the outer end, which catch is adapted to engage with a perforation in the nut, substantially as shown and described.

2. The combinatiomwith a nut and a bolt, of a key for connecting the two together, which is provided with a pivoted or jointed catch adapted to engage with the nut to lock the same to the bolt, substantially as shown and described.
