Description

(No Model.) o. J. GORLA.
7 7 FENGB'POST. No. 277,708. Patented May 15.1883.
UNITED` STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OAMILLO J. GORLA, OF EAST ST. LOUIS, ILLINOIS.
FENCE-POST.
SPECIFICATION formng part of Letters Patent No. 277,70 8, dated May 15, 1883.
Application filed October 24, 1882. v(No model.)
To all whom it may concert; a Be it known that I, GAMILLO J. GORLA, of East St. Louis, in the county of St. Clair, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful lrnprovementsin Fence-Posts; and I do hereby declare that the followingis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the acconipanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in fence-posts; and it has forits objects to provide a post having an anchor of peculiar construction, by means of which it maybe secured in the ground, and provided with iinproved devices, by means of which the fencewires may be secured, as more fully hereinafter specified.
The above-mentioned objects I attain by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l represen ts a perspective view of my im proved fence-post, with a portion broken away, showing the devices for attaching the fence-wire and Fig. 2 represents detached perspective views of the parts constituting the anchor.
The letter A indicates a hollow tube, of suit;- able material, having a solid conical point at its lower end and a suitable head at its top. The said tube is provided at suitable points with transverse apertures B, through which are passed the shanks of the hooks O, which are to support the fence-wires. The shanks of the books are screw-threaded at the ends, and
are provided with screw-nuts D, by means of which they may be clamped in place. The post atthe side immediately opposite the hooks is provided with a series of apertures, into which the ends of the books are adapted to be set when the shanks are screwed up tigbt by means of the nuts.
The letter E indicates an anchor, which is constructed in two parts, each consisting of a.
metallic strip bent in semicircular form midway between the two ends, the said strips being slotted on adjacent edges, as indicated by the letter F, in such manner that they maybe set around the post and interlocked, as showu in Fig. 1. When thus secured the parts of the anchor are fastened to the post by means of a through-bolt, F', and a nut, as indicated by the letter' G.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, lst In combination with a cylindi'ical fencepost, an anchor constructed of two bent strips of metal, adapted to embrace the post, and provided with slots at opposite edges, by means of which they may be interlocked, and a confining-bolt and screw-nut for securing the anchor to the post, substantiall)T as specified.
In testimony whereof affix my signature, in presence of two witnesses, this th day of October, 1882.
CAMILLO J. GORLA. Witnesses:
BEN SUMMER, J oHiv MEDoRIs.
