Description

Jan. 8, 1957 H. F. ROBINSON 2,776,705
FABRIC HOLDERS Filed-Feb. 5, 1955 INVENTOR. HARRY F'. ROBINSON.
IYBY
4 T TORNE X United States Patent Office FABRIC HOLDERS Harry F. Robinson, Cincinnati, Ohio Application February 3, 1955, Serial No. 485,957
4 Claims. (Cl. 155-182) This invention relates to a fabric holder and more particularly to a device insertable between the cushion support and the back or side arms to maintain the slip cover placed on furniture in a neat, orderly position.
Upholstered furniture has a crevice between the seat, back and arm rests. The usual procedure in fitting a slip cover to the unit is to allow suflicient material to permit tucking the material into the crevices. However this excess material pulls out causing an untidy appearance to the unit. My invention contemplates overcoming this defect. The device is pushed into the fold and locks the fold in place to maintain the material in a smooth, fixed position.
The object of my invention is to provide a formed device having resilient members along the engaging edges and yieldable members connecting said resilient members whereby the device can be collapsed for insertion between two angularly disposed members for expansion therebetween for holding a slip cover in position on upholstered furniture.
Further objects will become apparent as the description progresses.
My invention will be further readily understood from the following description and claims and from the drawings in which latter:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved holder.
Fig. 2 is a detail section, taken in the plane of the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic view of a section of a piece of furniture with my improved holder in place.
2,776,705 Patented Jan. 8, 1957 My improved fabric holder comprises a pair of formed spring steel members 11 of V formation. Rigid bars 12 connect the extended ends of the spring members and are encased in a. resilient material 13 to form friction producing edges. Rivets 14 join the parts together.
The slip cover 15 is tucked between the back 16 or side arm and the seat 17, the fabric holder is compressed to bring the members 13 together and pushed into the crevice over the slip cover, drawing the slip cover tightly over the seat and back. Release of the fabric holder causes the friction producing edges to spread apart under urging of the spring members to lock the friction edges in place and hold the slip cover in place.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A fabric holder comprising a pair of members yieldable in one direction, rigid connections between said members, and resilient coverings over said connections.
2. A fabric holder comprising a pair of yieldable members formed in a V shape, said members having rigid members connecting the free ends thereof, and said rigid members covered with a resilient material to form friction producing edges.
3. A fabric holder comprising a pair of yieldable members formed in a V shape and capable of being compressed, rigid members connecting the respective free ends of said yieldable members, and resilient covers over said rigid members.
4. In combination with a slip cover for upholstered furniture, a fabric holder arranged to be inserted between the back and seat or side arm and seat, and comprising a yieldable member provided with friction producing edges capable of being compressed into position and expanding upon release to hold the slip cover in position.
