Claims priority, application Italy June 23, 1951 1 Claim. (Cl. 107-14) With draw-plates or dies for forming alimentary paste into elongated shapes, such as, spaghetti, macaroni and the like, which have to produce a veil of llaments destined to be deposited upon canes or sticks, one of the most important problems is constituted by the necessity of obtaining a uniform pressure of the paste upon the perforated plate or mould in order to obtain a uniform exit speed of the paste from all the bores, that is to say an equal length of all the filaments produced during a certain length of time.
To try to attain this purpose, two solutions have been attempted so far.
The first solution consists in feeding the chamber of the die with a plurality of pipes, which introduce the paste at a number of points of said chamber, along which, therefore, the differences of pressure will result to be less perceptible than if the long chamber were fed through one pipe only.
According to another solution, instead of only one mould, a plurality of moulds are used, which are placed at a short distance from one another in such a manner as to form a row of moulds, to each of which there corresponds a chamber fed by its own intake pipe. In this way, the exit speed of the paste from all these small moulds comes to be doubtless more uniform than in the first case, but the construction is more complicated and costly and the veil of paste presents inevitably some interruptions.
It is the object of the present invention to provide a die, in which are combined the advantages coming from the use of one single mould and of those deriving from the immediate drawing of the paste coming from each pipe, without having to rely on a hypothetical equilibrium of pressures in a long chamber.
'I'he die according to the invention is characterized in that its head comprises a wall provided with a plurality of partitions terminating in the proximity of the internal surface of the mould, and which originate a `corresponding number of chambers, each conned by a section of mould and within each of which there opens one feed pipe, all said pipes issuing from one single compression chamber for the paste.
The accompanying drawing represents a die according to the invention, viz.:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section,
Figure 2 is a cross section taken on a plane adjacent an end of wall 1 whereby the downwardly projecting wall forming a chamber 2 is not visible,
Figure 3 is a plan view, and
Figure 4 is a section along A-B of Figure 3.
As it can be seen in Figure l,` the rear wall 1 of the mould-carrying head is made in such a manner as to originate a plurality of chambers 2 above the die plate 3; each of said chambers is fed by a pipe 4 and all the pipes 4 are connected to a conduit 5 from which the compressed paste is pushed with equal pressure into each of the pipes 4. The plate 3 is supported by the frame 7 secured to the part 1 by means of bolts 6.
Hence all the chambers 2 behave like as many drawheads fed in equal manner, but there is the advantage that the mould 3 is a single one. It can be easily removed by loosening the bolts 6 and removing the piece 7. Plugs 8 are forced in holes in alignment with the pipes 4 and can be removed for cleaning said pipes.
What I claim is:
A die construction for continuously extruding lilaments of alimentary paste; said die construction comprising a die plate having a series of spaced apart openings therein for the extrusion of alimentary paste through said openings, a wall disposed above said die plate and having projections depending into the proximity of the latter to define a plurality of chambers above said plate with each of said chambers encompassing at least a related one of said openings, a compression chamber having a circular cross section for receiving alimentary paste under pressure, and a pipe extending from each of the aforementioned chambers to said compression chamber for carrying alimentary paste from the latter to the related one of said first chambers, said pipes being of t-he saine cross-sectional area and having their longitudinal centre lines extending from said rst chambers to a plurality of points symmetrically arranged on a circumference concentric with the circular cross section of said compression chamber.
