Description
1956 M. B. BLISH DISPENSING APPLICATOR AND CONTALNER THEREFOR I Filed April 25, 1952 Fry-l Inven for ffimfiz nited States Patent DISPENSING APPLICATOR AND CONTAINER THEREFOR Matthew B. Blish, Oak Park, Ill.
Application April 23, 1952, Serial No. 283,820
3 Claims. (Cl. 15-136) The present invention relates to containers devised for dispensing substances contained therein in predetermined quantities and more particularly to a container for dispensing and applying lip rouge.
An object of the present invention is to provide a device which will enable lip rouge to be directly applied in a desired amount automatically by the casing when manipulated with respect to the lip rouge encased therein.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a lip rouge device which prevents the lip rouge material from being exposed, excepting the amount ready for immediate use, thus keeping the lip rouge material in a clean and sanitary condition.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above stated qualities wherein the lip rouge material is conveniently refillable into the casing.
With these and other objects in view, the invention resides in the combinations, arrangements, and functional relationships of elements as set forth in the following specifications and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawing,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of the device and showing the cover withdrawn from the casing;
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the casing;
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the complete assembly in a fully closed position.
Referring specifically to the drawing, wherein like parts are denoted by the same reference characters, the invention comprises an elongated cylindrical casing made of resiilent material and having a kneadable lip rouge material 11 encased therein.
The casing 10 has one end diminishing in outside diameter to a generally conical applicator end 12, and the inside diameter diminishing in a lesser degree to form a relatively thicker applicator sidewalls 13 than the sidewalls of said casing 10, and a narrow orifice 14 is centrally located through the apogee of said conical applicator end 12.
The opposing end is threaded internally at 15 for engagement by external threads 16 of a cap 17 provided with an elongated, upturned flange 18 for frictionally securing the open end 19 of rigid cover 20.
Upon slight flexing of the thin molded casing sidewalls 21 a relatively small portion of the kneadable lip rouge 11 enclosed therein is supplied through the orifice 14 to the outside central area of the applicator end 12 and its aggressively tacky consistency will effect a clinging action thereto, available for immediate use. The casing is preferably molded of polyethylene plastic and its smooth surface produces an exceptionally easy gliding means for applying the lip rouge. The ease of gliding action is fur ther produced by the rigid construction of the thicker applicator sidewalls.
As the kneadable lip rouge 11 passes through the narrow orifice 14 it is subjected to an extrusion milling process which increases the fineness and improves the structure of the lip rouge texture.
"ice
The cap 17 being removable, permits the casing to be refilled with lip rouge.
While the device illustrated and described is particularly applicable as a lip rouge applicator, it will be understood that its use is not confined to a specific element and that it may also be used for dispensing soft wax materials and the like.
It is intended that all matter contained in the above description shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense, and that the drawings are to be considered more or less of a schematic character for the purpose of illustrating an exemplary embodiment of the invention and the device need not necessarily be of circular cross-section design as shown.
It is understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a dispensing applicator container construction comprising a container having an aperture at one end adapted for dispensing matter carried within the container, a refilling aperture closure member fixedly engageable into and removably closing a refilling aperture at the opposing end, a removable container covering cap member having a closed end and an opposing open end, the inside width of said covering cap member being slightly greater than the outside width of the container and adapted to cover said container at a close dimensional tolerance with the container wall portion, in combination therewith the improvement comprising a longitudinally extending peripheral flange carried by said aperture closure member and disposed laterally beyond the peripheral edge of the refilling aperture end of the container and formed to longitudinally extend in parallel alignment with the outer surface of said container side wall portion adjacent to said refilling aperture end of the container and spaced apart from the container wall portion at a slightly greater distance than the thickness of the covering cap member side wall and providing a friction retaining recess between the inner surface of the longitudinally extending peripheral flange and the outer surface of the container side wall portion removably receiving said covering cap member.
2. In a dispensing applicator container construction comprising a container having a cylindrical side wall portion and an aperture at one end adapted for dispensing matter carried within the container, an internally threaded refilling aperture at the opposing end, a refilling aperture closure member having an externally threaded raised portion removably closing said refilling aperture, a removable container covering cap member having a closed end and an opposing open end, the inside diameter of said covering cap member being slightly greater than the outside diameter of the container and adapted to cover said container at a close dimensional tolerance with the container side wall portion, in combination therewith the improvement comprising a longitudinally extending peripheral flange carried by said aperture closure member and disposed laterally beyond the peripheral edge of the refilling aperture end of the container" and formed to longitudinally extend in parallel alignment with the outer surface of said container side wall portion adjacent to said refilling aperture end of the container and spaced apart from the container side wall portion at a slightly greater distance than the thickness of the covering cap member side Wall and providing a friction retaining annular recess between the inner surface of the longitudinally extending peripheral flange and the outer surface of the container side Wall portion removably receiving thecovering cap member.
3. In a dispensing applicator container construction comprising a container having a cylindrical side wall portion and an aperture at one end adapted for dispensing matter carried within the container, an internally threaded refilling aperture at the'opposing end, a refilling aperture closure member having an externally threaded raised portion removably'closing said refilling aperture, a removable container covering cap member having a closed end and an opposing open end, the inside diameter of said covering' cap member being slightly greater than the outside diameter of the container and adapted to cover said container at a close dimensional tolerance With the container side wall portion, a radially raised rim circumscribing the periphery of said container adjacent to the refilling aperture end and having a breadth approximating the thickness of the covering cap member side Wall, in combin'a'tion therewith the improvement comprising a longitudinally extending peripheral flange carried by said aperture closure member and disposed laterally beyond said radially raised rim and formed to extend longitudinally in parallel alignment with the outer surface of the radially raised rim so that the inner side Wall surface of said longitudinally extending peripheral flange is disposed in abutment with the outer side wall surface of said radially raised-rim and a-portion of the longitudinally extending peripheral flange protrudes beyond the top edge of the radially raised rim in parallel alignment With the outer surface of said container side Wall portion thus providing a friction retaining annular recess defined between the inner surface of the longitudinally extending peripheral flange and the outer surface of the container side Wall portion above the top edge of the radially raised rim, said recess removably receiving the open end of said covering cap member.
