Description
Sept. 17, 1940. s, sAPERY cosMETnrc CONTAINER Filed Dec. 20, 1939 STANLEY SAPERY,
@M lm@- haaks Patented Sept. 17, 1940 PATENT OFFICE COSMETIC CONTAINER Stanley Sapery, Brooklyn, N.Y., assignor to Victor Metal Products Corporation, Brooklyn, N. Y.
Application December zo, 1939, serial No. 310,238
5 Claims. v(Cl. 132-79) This invention relates to ladies cosmetic containers and more particularly to a cosmetic container adapted to hold both perfume and lipstick.
Prior to' the.instant invention it has been customary for ladies to carry in their purses or handbags various cosmetic containers, including a lipstick container and a perfume bottle. As it is well known that space in a ladysvpurse or handbag is at a. premium, the problem involved in the saving of space in ladies purses and hand-` bags for other articles than cosmetic containers is a very important one.
In addition to the above and also prior to the linstant invention. it has been an actual fact that there is a problem involved in the ilnding v of particular items in ladies purses and hand- 'bags by their owners and the particular article sought at any particular moment seems to be the last one to be found, much tothe chagrin of the owner of the purse or handbag. y
It is an object of 'the instant invention to economize on space in ladies purses and handbags and also to reduce the time involved in finding a particular article in ladies purses and handbags by providing a perfume' flacon having a. cap adapted to hold a lipstick and a cover? therefor. As both the lipstick and the perfume I make up a'single article, whether the owner ofl the purse or handbag is looking for the perfume or the lipstick, her chances are twice as great of nding the article sought in a predetermined time, or there is an even chance vthat she will4 find the article sought in vhalf the time.
. `It is a further objectv of the instant'invention toprovide a novel and attractive plural compartment receptacle which may bereadily fabril Y, cated of inexpensive materials and in which the association of parts is' s uch that they may be venience ofthe user. l y
Other .objects kand the nature` and-advantages ofthe invention will be apparent from the folreadily: assembled and'odisassembled at the con- --lowing description `taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing. wherein:
Fig. 1 is an enlarged view in elevation of a plural compartment receptacle in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 isa longitudinal sectional view-taken at right angles to the view shown at Fig. 1 and with the cord and tassel removed; and
Fig. 3 is a top plan View of the plural compartment receptacle with the cord land tassel removed.
Referring to the drawing, the plural compartment receptacle I includes a perfume flacon II which may be molded of glass and of polygonal horizontal section. lThe upper portion of the flacon II has a neck I2 which is formed with an annular ridge I3 and screw threads I4. At the junctionof the lower portion of the neck I2 with the body of the acon II there is a'shoulder I5 on which the lower edge I6 of the cap Il rests when in fully closed position. The. cap I-'I is formed with screw threads I 8, which cooperate with the screw threads yIl formed on the neck I2 ofthe flacon II. The cap I'I is. formed at its lower end with a skirt I9, the lower portion I6 of which cooperates with the shoulder I5. `The skirt I9 completelycovers and protects the annular ring I3 and provides for a relatively smooth .transition between the cap IIA and the sides of the ilacon I I. Formed in the the uppermost portion 22 of the neck I2 of the ilacon II, whereby when the flacon II is screwed l into the `cap I1., there will be no danger of escape of the perfume within the flacon Il.
screwing in or out of the flacon II is facilitated by the polygonal horizontal section thereof which may be readily grasped by the user and turned. 'I'he upper portion of the capI Il is formed with a.
' tubular projection 23 of an outer diameter which is less than'the diameter of the cap I'I.-
Ther tubular projection 23 is adapted to receive and hold; a lipstick. within Aits interior and to receive and hold a closed'end tubular member 25Ao'n` its exterior. The difference in diameter between that voi' the exterior ofthe 'tubular projection 23 and that ,of the exterior of the cap I'I .corresponds to the space occupied by that portion of the .closure member 25 which frictionally engages the exterior of the tubular projecting portion 23, whereby there is a smooth transition between the cap I'I and the closure element 25 and the net result will be a relatively small plural compartment receptacle adapted to hold perfume and lipstick without danger of spilling and with the occupationv of .but a minimum of space.
The closure element 25 includes a rounded Vclosed end 26 and a 'tapered iln 21, pierced at .28 to receive a cord 29,- to which may be attached y a tassel 30.
In the manufacture of the acon II,` the rev duced neck I2 is formed with the annular ring I3.
2 I3 and also to provide a smooth transition between the cap I1l and the acon II, in order resin.
to prevent the catching of dust land small particles in any exposed groove, the cap I1 is formed with the skirt I9, which protects and covers the annular ring I3 and cooperates with the shoulder IBoftheflacon II. I
The association of the acon II with the 'cap I1 'depends upon the screw threads Il and I8 and the gasket 2I. The association of the closure element 25 with the cap I1 depends upon a friction iit between the interior of the lower portion of the closure element 25 andthe' exterior of the tubular projecting portion 23. The diameters of the respective parts mentioned are so related that there will be a smooth transition between the exterior of the closure element 25 and the cap I1, in order to prevent the accumulation of dust and other small particles at the joints. Both the nn 21 and the polygonal transverse section of the flacon I I facilitate the assembly and disassembly of the parts to conveniently provide access to and seal, as desired, the cosmetics within the compartments of the plural compartment container.
The flacon II maybe made of glass and the cap I1 and closure element 25 of a synthetic plastic which may be a phenol formaldehyde The gasket 20 may be of paper, cork, rubber, or other resilient material. y
Thus it will be understood that a novel and useful plural compartment receptacle has been provided which solves problems of space, convenience, and sanitation for ladies, and at the same time reduces the expense to the manufacturer and consumer for articles of this nature. l
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in this devise without departing from the spirit of -the invention and therefore the invention is not limited to what is shown in the drawing and described in the specification but only as indicated in the appended claims.
